Where to start dress shopping

Hi-
Looking for dress under $1000- tasteful and antique looking on LI or NYC. Liked RK bridal- other ideas of places?

Look at the MoriLee website. I am also looking not to spend over $1,000 and I liked alot of their dresses. Have not seen them in person yet though.

RK Bridal does carry Mori Lee, so if you try one on somewhere else, RK will beat the price.

Well MAggie Sottero, Jasmine and Casablanca are a few designers who have dresses under 1K. Lilletes (ask for Geri) has a good selection, I believe Burtons and Helens in Commack does and I just found my dress (a Maggie Sottero) at Village Bridal in Babylon. They had a great selection. Many were under 1K

Try to look for trunk shows...those are when the designers show their new lines and there are discounts. I bought my dress at a trunk show and it was 15% off (so was my veil and tiara!).

I know there are mixed reviews about David's Bridal but the one in Lake Grove (by SMith Haven Mall) was really good w/my BP, mother's and MIL's dresses, and also w/my sister's wedding, w/her dress and our BP dresses. My sister got her dress for under $600 and it came in within a week.

You may also want to check MACY's (Herald Square). You have to search thru their dresses, but they did provide me with a nice discount.

I would look into DB (their fall line just came out and they have some gorgeous dresses). RK definitely has good pricing. Also maybe you could try the Bridal Salon in Macy's. They were really friendly and they were not to expensive (especially if you shop out of season.) These are all in Manhattan and really close, so maybe you can make a full day out of it!

Another vote for Lillette's! Many of the gowns I tried on were under $1000. Definitely ask for Geri

I would be careful with DB- their dresses are really cheap but you buy them off the rack-so that means everyone has been trying them on. Most of the dresses have stains, makeup smears, pulls and snags. And their policy is as is-they won't even clean a stain for you.

Would you consider looking online at preownedweddingdresses.com? Do a search for the $ range you are looking for.

Also, you say 'antique looking' is the kind of dress you're looking for. Vintage wedding dresses are very popular right now. Even the tiaras are retiring to some extent in lieu of champagne or ivory ribbons used as a headband. A popular vintage look is an all lace ivory or champagne dress with cap sleeves. David's Bridals has a couple that I would recommend and they are around $800. I am not a fan of synthetic silk which is the poor material David's Bridals use but with all lace, you can't tell the poor quality of the satin.

Claire Pettibone is expensive but most of the dresses are very vintage looking. The attached image is a Claire Pettibone dress that was originally $3000 and is selling for $1,200 on Preowned wedding dresses. Check it out.
