Where to take Mom shopping?

Any recommendations on good dress places for my mom? She is not into the head-to-toe sequins look or the frumpy-mom look. Thanks!

Both my mom and a co-worker of my mom found their dresses at the same store

The Elegant Bride
1188 Willis Avenue
Albertson
(516) 484-0599

Gloria, a salesperson and seamstress there, was great!

Down the block is another store that sells beautiful gowns - a bit pricey though.

Filly's
1065 Willis Avenue
Albertson
(516) 239-4976

Good luck!!

Both great places. My parents live in Roslyn Heights right over there.

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

A good place to start is by looking at bridal or special ocassion apparel magazines, select the nicest dresses you see and then looking for stores that carry those dresses.

Sorry I can't recommend a place. I hated the two places I went with my mother.

Good luck!

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

RK Bridal has a nice selection of dresses. My Mom is looking more into the BM dress section than MOB (she says she does not want to feel 'old') lol

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

In the past my mother has had dresses made because she was quite overweight. Since she's lost a few pounds, her options are a bit more open. Though I think she will have a dress made out of habit. Whatever makes her happy. Some people are set in their ways. 73 year old women do not have epiphanies. I love that woman!

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

For higher end dresses you can try Boutique Elle in Woodbury Common. They run about 1,500-3,000 for MOB dresses. The other store is Isle Fashions. They are located on rt 106 on the corner of northern blvd and 106 opposite Rothmans' stakehouse and on the same side of the street as Blueberries in Oyster Bay. They have Mon cheri and a few other brands that you can find on the Knot for MOB dresses. They are about 500-800.
Alternatively, Oscar de la Renta has gowns in the city for 6000+.

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

My mom got her dress from Bridal Reflections in Massapequa, just tell them that you are looking for a younger looking dress. My mom didn't want the standard Mother of the bride dress either. She found a gorgeous one there.

Re: Where to take Mom shopping?

I went to En toto in Great Neck with my grandma and found that they had the same dresses as Isle Fashions but for about 200 more than Isle was selling them for. En Toto is opposite Lenard's of Great Neck.

My Mom got her gown for my wedding at Boutique Elle and it's really beautiful. All of the gowns are custom made, but they do get pricier than $3k.
