I went to a wedding at one of the mansions in Newport, RI. This particular mansion was one of the more gothic ones. It looked like medieval castle. Well, the groom was Jewish and the bride was raised in an Irish/Italian Catholic home and she converted. So she had many Jewish traditions combined with Irish and Italian ones. My fave was the bag piper at the beginning. I did not ask him if he knew 'Hava Negila.' I thought it would be in poor taste.

I know this sounds really bad, but it was mine. We had it at an aquarium and I have never been to a wedding outside of a catering hall. I loved the whole look of the rooms and that there was so much to see and so many places to walk around. Just my opinion though.

Wow what a great mix of 2 traditions - both of which in a medieval castle!!!!! I love it!

LOL about the bagpipes and 'Hava Negila.'

My cousin had a really unique wedding..it was a ceremony in the middle of a field of Sunflowers!! My uncle is a landscaper, and he grew the suflowers, in a circle around a grassy area....it was absolutely beautiful..in August, and very different! Her reception was at her parents house in Bridgehampton under a big tent...it was just so much fun, and casual, and beautful!

Before we went looking, we knew we wanted something different... just didn't know what different was. After our meeting with the BM, we both knew that is where we wanted to have our reception. We had the cermony there as well. All the guests were greeted in the room that holds the stingrays; where champagne was handed out. The guest were then walked over the bridge in to the 'Whale Room' where the cermony took place. The cocktail hour was inside and outside on their terrance and in a permenant tent they have right by the salt marsh. The colusium room is where all the tables were set up- I used both upstairs and downstairs. The dance floor is in the adjacent room where the cermony was held. I loved it and a lot of the guests still tell me how much they loved the idea.

I attached a few pics so you could get an idea. 'No Stress Bride' got married there the week before I did if you want to FM her for info.

Several years ago I went to a wedding in Lake George, NY. The bride and groom rented an entire resort for a weekend. We drove up their on a Friday afternoon, we were all assigned cabins for the weekend. My daughter was in the wedding party, so onFriday night we went to the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant in town, Saturday was the wedding - the ceremony was in a beautiful old church in town and then we all drove back to the resort for the reception. There was a huge tent set up right on the lake. The reception was catered by a local German restaurant and the DJ played for hours. Midway through the reception, people changed into shorts and continued to drink and dance the night away. We left for home on Sunday afternoon. That was the best wedding I had ever been to.

Your pics are beautiful - it truly looks like a farytale wedding! The interior walls look like a castle!

I went to the DeSeversky Mansion 2 years ago. The meandering gravel road was very romantic and nice....the food was amazing, very different and delicious, not crazy gluttonous!

The setting was beautiful, a nice stone patio outside, FI made it memorable too!

Where was the wedding?

I'm getting married at the Sagamore, and have spend over 20 summers at my parents summer home up there.

We're getting married at my parents church in Lake Luzerne....

My sister's wedding in California. It was in an Opera House - a real one from the early 1900's. But it was beautifully maintained. It was absolutely charming!

The most unique wedding I went to was in Cap Cod. It was truly a 'magical wedding.' It was on the water with boats, there was a full moon, and everyone danced under the stars on the uncovered wooden deck. I also think it felt so unique because leading up to the event everyone rented a house for the week before so we were on a mini vacation. The rehersal dinner was at a beautiful house hidden in the dunes...everything was perfect and intimate. it is hard to describe in words.
