wheres an easy place to cut back?

wheres an easy place to cut back?

so i may have to shift things to get the photographer we want. i've really got my heart set on them, so now i'm going to try and rework our numbers to see if we can swing them. i mean, we're lucky in the sense that we have more than what we would like to spend, so it wouldnt be the end of the world if we went over our ideal limit by a little, but if i can rework stuff, i'd be even happier. any ideas on where i should try to cut first?

Here's a link; there are multiple versions of this thread, but I think this is the most recently updated one!

http://www.nycityweddings.com/chat/topic-391396-1.html

I think you're smart to be looking now at 'shifting' things to allocated $ to the things you really want. Someone on the 07 board posted a great tip, I'm paraphrasing, but someone told her to 'spend money on the things that last BEYOND the wedding day.'
That's a great guide for setting priorities; so many last minute things come up on the day and if you're not prepared it can be really stressful!!

I had a small bridal party (3 BMS, 3 GMs) and that freed up at least an extra $2k to put toward other things!

you can save a lot of $ by not spending a lot on the following:
- ring pillow
- flower baskets
- church programs
- cake topper (scour ebay for inexpensive ones, or make your own)
- toasting flutes & cake server set (RH will provide)
- guestbook
- menus (some RHs provide them)
- table numbers (provided by your RH)
- super-expensive invitations (there are nice yet inexpensive ones out there)
- hand-written calligraphy (use computerized calligraphy or print your own labels)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with spending a lot on these if you have the budget for them, but if you're looking to cut corners, these would be good places to save some $

I am trying to save money...

day wedding
small bridal party
simple centerpieces (see album)
cheap veil
DIY programs and menus
Invites at Party City

But I did spend alot on other things...band, photographer, etc...so it all evens out in the long run! Ughhh!

thought of 2 more things:
1- I asked my RH if they can provide music for our CH, and they can pipe in the 'hallway' music into the room, so I'm saving a lot of $$ that way

2- most of your guests will have digital cameras, so rather than spend $$ on disposable cameras for tables (and more $ to develop them), set up a free photo-sharing website on shutterfly.com and spend only $ to create business cards from Vista Print to explain to guests how to upload their photos

Here's mine:

So many great ways to cut back. Do low CPs or candles, one limo, no church decor, etc. That thread Colette mentioned above is a great resource!

theres a few ways to save, one thing is that there are EXTRA things ppl get but you dont have to. You dont have to get cocktail napkins, personalized matches and that sort of stuff. Dont have to do bathroom baskets or slipper baskets if you were planning on it.

Programs or menu's or both. The RH will provide you with menu's and table numbers if you want. Look to save on invitations, that is a big one and you can save hundreds of dollars on that one, and that might be the extra you need for the photographer. Headpiece and veil. Ill be honest and i dont like headpieces that much lol ive come to this realization. Ive been looking for 2 years and not once did i say OMG i love that, so this past friday i went to barrons and just bought a simple one finally, a week before my wedding lol and for a low price. I also didnt buy a veil until recently again i never said omg wow about veils so one girl recommended a place to me and i went there got a simple one for a great price.

After you have negotiated your prices with vendors, ask them about paying cash in lieu of paying tax....some will, some won't, but it's a savings even if one does it!!!!

We printed our own invites. No program and menus. Also, I needed to cut $ b/c of the photographer I wanted. I told them that and they (Patken) sat with me and made a package that fit my budget so I can afford them!

We were in the same position. We found a photographer that we loved and had to have and worked the rest of our budget around that.

a big tip i have for you is BE FLEXIBLE
we had an idea for programs but someone came across a different type on clearance and bought them for us, they weren't what we wanted but honestly we didn't care that much about them and saved a TON b/c we just went with the others.
That worked for a lot of things...
We did pocket folds and wanted one color/size but a website had a different color and size on clearance. it still went with our color theme so we went with the cheaper ones and saved almost $1000

Flowers- shop around for great prices, and cut back if you can. If flowers are really important to you ignore this advice... Flowers did not mean anything to me except for the BoKs. so we did candle centerpieces with petals and saved thousands of dollars. We used Wedding World for flowers, they were amazing and very affordable.
