Which are you using for $$$

Original post by lisam1113

I've heard different opinions to use a bird cage & guests place their card in whenever they'd like & then I was told a proper way is to get a money bag & towards the end of the night go to each table with my money bag & thanking them for coming & thats when I get their card... Which one are you doing ?

I did the money bag. I was going to do a mailbox but ended up going cheaper with the money bag. People normally give the cards in the beginning of the night (during cocktail hour or during dinner while you are sitting down). If you wait until the end of the night, you chance people leaving early and not getting to say hello to those that left (if that's why you are going table to table).

Our money bag was held by my dad's friend (this guy married us) all night. I sat under his chair and no one saw it. It was hidden nicely and people would give us cards and then we would give it to my dad's friend. I do have to say it was a little pain in the butt but I did like it better then the card box (while some are beautiful).

May sound mean of me but I thought it was silly to have to go table to table everyone is going to want to talk to us all night & we're not going to be able to dance & actually enjoy the wedding with our guests.. at least with a cage someone can't just go walk off with it & not be noticed like they can with a money bag

Not mean of you at all! We didn't go around table to table either. People mostly came up to us. My feeling was I have 200+ guests to say hi to but my guests have 2 people to say hi to so I let them do the work. I'm a b*tch like that. You pay all this money and people think you should spend half the time going table to table? No thanks. We ended up doing the money bag which totally worked out great. I doesn't always happen but I know I was at a wedding and people took cards out of the birdcage, not the whole thing, just some cards, so just be careful and when it looks like it's getting a little full, take them out and put them in the safe ni your bridal suite if you have one.

I was hoping to go with 1 that had sides sort of closed off for that reason. I have heard stories of cards going missing ..I would be extremely mad/upset!! I really didn't want to have to carry around a money bag.. but after hearing comments from some of the family feeling like 'i have to' ..Glad for everyones input
