Emigrant Direct, ING, and HSBC all online have great rates

Emigrant Direct is up to 5% now and ING Orange is 4.35% I think. I have savings accounts with both of them and they are great! No minimums, no fees...completely online and easy!

Citibank has an online bank that's at 5%. HSBC has an online bank with a high rate as well.

I have a savings account with ING direct because at the time I set it up, they had the best rates. I've been happy with them so far, I had FH set one up too for himself.

how does it work, when the rate are at a high. Are you locked in, or it goes up and down with the market?

I am clueless.

It fluctuates with the market. If you were to buy a Cd, you'd be locked in at the rate.

I think when I opened my ING account, the rate was 4% and now it's either 4.25% or 4.35%.

that ING is interesting. You don't have an actual bank to go to, it's all done ellectronically. Interesting, because I do not want to open another acount (which means another bank I never get the time to go to)

Most of the higher interest rates right now are through online banks (even the Citibank and HSBC just to name a couple).

but with the citibank savings, don't you have to open a checking account?
I really don't want to open another account and switch banks, and deal with all my bills I pay/direct deposit.

Yes, the Citibank one you do need to have a Citibank checking account.

I have my ING account linked up to my regular checking account. I've had no problems with them.

ETA: You can set it up too that they automatically take money out of your account (I have my paycheck direct deposited entirely into my checking and get a portion pulled out for savings).

ING Direct! You have access to your money (within days, anyway)... right now it's about a 4.25% interest rate! My money is gaining interest without me doing anything!

I trust them 100%... I've had an account with them for about 4 years! Their interest rate helped me save $$ to buy our house and now it's helping towards saving for the wedding.

FM me for more info... I have a link I can send you where you get $25 free for opening an account with them!
