Which bank would you recommend?

Which bank would you recommend?

I have been frustrated with my bank for several months. The last straw was a notice saying that they are implementing a whole slew of charges for things like balance transfers ($30 a transfer).

In addition, as of August 1st, I can't make withdrawls, balance inquiries and other transactions at the teller. I MUST use the ATM. The problem is, my ATM has a daily limit on what I can take out. If I ever need to withdraw more than the limit, how the he** am I supposed to get it, if I cannot go to the teller?

So I am bank shopping. I need one that does internet banking, with low fees, need weekend bank hours, savings accounts with a high interest rate, and lots of ATM's.

What bank do you recommend?

Citibank and Chase are good. As much as it kills me to recommend them, North Fork is decent (although their interest rate is kind of low).

Commerce Bank! They are great and they are open late and on weekends. Their checking is free too!

I like Commerce (that's where we have FI's accounts). I still have Bank of America - and while they're better than Fleet was, I still may opt for Commerce sometime soon.

I love Bank of America formerly Fleet.

Not a fan of Chase - they gave me a really hard time once (I started to cry in the bank - how embarrasing!) regarding my car loan through them (I had an accident and needed them to do something or other so I could get the insurance money).

Astoria Federal, there are quite a few around. I think their interest rates are around everyone else's but I love everything else about them. No crazy fees, internet use, ATM and teller, etc.

ETA: Also, Bank of America I think is good as well! Good luck!

Commerce for me! We switched all of our accounts over there. They never charge bounce fees and there are rarely any penalties and bull$hit charges.

Although the lines can be long becasue everyone is discovering them, i think the customer service is amoung the best. They are pleasant and helpful. That goes a long way with me. Plus, there are no giant bullet protecting, high-countertop windows.

You don't by chance have any immediate family members in the military, do you? Or retired military?
We use USAA, which is for active duty or retired military and their family members.
It's great! You get ATM fees refunded
The only downside is that there are no physical locations. All your deposits have to be mailed in.

I have one account with Commerce and love the convenience and some of the other perks but their online banking (not even bill paying) stinks as far as I can tell ... very limited history available.

I also have my main acct with Chase and while there are too many fees, I'm happy wit it overall.

I have Washington Mutual and I love them. We've never had issue w/ them and there are so many of them around I don't have trouble finding an ATM.

We have WM too and love them as well, but they don't have credit cards so we're switching to Bank of America. DH likes to use the credit card and pay it online through the bank's website. We save money on interest this way. This change will happen as soon as I switch my name, which I haven't even thought of doing just yet.

FH and I use Citibank (separate accounts). They are okay. We are talking about opening a joint account with Commerce.

I would recommend Commerce bank they are wonderful AND open 7 days a week.

I would NOT recommend Washington Mutual. We had MANY problems with them when I moved back to NY I changed my mailing address over the phone.

They changed my account AND my grandmothers account two different names (but my grandmother name is the same as my maiden name)- which I have NEVER had a connection too. They were sending me all of her statements. So here I am receiving her bank statements with her bank account number, balance etc - Private information that should NOT have been sent to anyone but her.

When she called to change it back they told her NO that she had to come down in person and that they don't make changes over the phone - Mind you 1) she NEVER made any changes in the first place - the changes were made in THEIR error and 2) I changed my account and DH changed his over the phone.

When my father who does her taxes contacted the bank to tell them that they volated privacy laws - and to fix the mistake immediately they told him she had to come in and bring photo ID to make any changes.

They were extremely rude to her. They told them that 'so the statements were sent to the wrong person (we did not mention it was my grandmother as they went in without me) it was an error and not their problem'. AFTER making the changes - we (I went in later) and we all pulled our money. Months later I was STILL receiving her tax forms - that she was requesting since she never received them.

My father tried to file a complaint as this is a violation of privacy - the number you have to call says Press 1) for washington mutual and 2) for all other banks. He was informed that they have their own line to handle the multitudes of complaints they receive about this particular bank.
