Which Cocktail Hour Music?

Which Cocktail Hour Music?

Torn between two styles of music for the cocktail hour.

1) Classical trio (violin, piano & flute) . Very elegant and laid back

OR

2) Dixieland Jazz band (think New Orleans, or the music they play on Boardwalk Empire). Very upbeat and unexpected. Not sure if it's TOO upbeat?

We are having a DJ after cocktail hour, for the rest of the reception.

Please help me decide.

They're both awesome for different reasons. Do you want the vibe of your wedding to start off laid back, and classic, or bubbly and fun. Will it be hard for your guests to mingle if the dixieland music is too loud?

They are both good, but I am pulling for the first. You want the party to start off laid back, let people chat, meet people, catch up and then save the real party for the reception :)

They are both good choices but I'd go with the less upbeat one because cocktail hour is really for mingling and such and people don't really pay attention to the music.... well at least I don't cuz i'm too busy eating

I think it depends on where you're getting married... i like the strings, but it might depends a bit on the look and feel of your RH

Think the trio would be a nice touch for the cocktail hour its relaxing people can mingle before the dancing begins

how about u have the classical trio for the CH, and then u can jazz it up during the reception part, different type of music.
