which dress salon to visit first??? a lil confused
im confused about where to book an appt to try on dresses first....
i dont even know if it matters, or what to base the decision on...
do u think it matters?? i have 2-3 places i know i definitely wanna go, and im gonna make my first appt for april 5th
is there anything to consider of where to go first? and if i find a dress i love at the first place, can i still go to the others to compare prices of dresses/alterations and the niceness of the ppl?
my moms worried that ill fall in love w/a dress at the first place, but still wanna go check out other bridal salons...is this even an issue cuz i can always go back to the first place if i want to get the dress right?
ugh im so confused...i hate making decisions!

I looked online first. Is there a particular designer you like? If so, you can go to a bridal salon that carries alot of that designer. I love demetrios gowns so I made an appt. with macy's bridal.
This past weekend I went to RK Bridal and Macy's. I went to RK first and found a dress I was in LOVE with. But I decided to go to Macy's, just in case, since I had the appointment anyway. I ended up finding a dress very similiar to the first one, but even more perfect. I knew it was the one.
I think if you know you love a dress, you can stop looking. The only reason I went to macy's was because I had the appt. already, otherwise I wouldve just bought the first dress (and honestly, I would have been just as happy as I am now, it was very similiar).

ok well that sounds good then...cuz i love Maggie Sottero, and all the ones i wanna go to carry maggie, so i narrowed them down in that sense already....
and since u saw a dress u loved, and went elsewhere after, obviously its ok to do that!! lol
i stress over everything!! LOL

the first place i went was david's bridal, just to get the whole first experience out of my system. i went by myself on a weeknight. i did see one dress that i kinda liked. i would be happy with it. it may not be 'the one' but i would be happy with it. so that was my benchmark (especially wen factoring in prices)
i later went to RK bridal with my MOH. it was a good experience. i found a few dresses i like. still nothing that was THE ONE. but it was a good experience and they have a large choice of designers that you can try on. only suggestion...get there EARLY. its first come, first served.
i also went to bridal garden just because i wanted to check it out. and the $ goes to charity. so i definately wanted to give it a chance. i saw a really pretty ulla-maijer, so i may go to her store and see whats up. it was a different design than what is on the website, so its hard to shop around unless i can find a copy.
either way, i think you will be okay. and yes, if you find THE ONE. just write down teh model number. i hear girls try on things a bunch of times before deciding to buy. dont worry. have fun!!
good luck!!

thanks so much for ur advice!!!
i figured if i found one i love i could jus write the model down n if i dont find it elsewhere for cheaper, or at a place im more comfortable with, that i could go back...
its not like they're not gonna be able to order the dress on another day, right?

right. just in case some places hide the model # (it happens...my friend tells me tons of stories when she used to work in bridal salons)...try to sneak a picture of the dress or remember the details so you can search it later. (but i would be weary of places that hide the model #...usually they have other things to hide too [i.e., copy dresses])

yeah you can definitely shop around i know when i went i brought pictures of the dresses i liked (some places i called ahead of time just to make sure they had the dresses i liked). I have a hard time looking at the racks and visualizing what these dresses look like on. so actually every single dress that i tried on that i liked was one that i chose before i even got to the store (online or in a magazine)......some of the ladies were really no help at all (maybe i'm just picky though). good luck, and have fun!!

i am an on-line shopper, i don't even know the last time i purchased clothes in a store. so i looked on-line first. i looked at all the designers i could find that made wedding gowns. (demetrios, maggie sottero, watters, alfred angelo, christina wu) then i looked at each website to see which dresses i liked best. i picked out mostly demetrios dresses at first. so i first went to Macys in Herald Square. I basically was set on one of the dresses when my sister decided we should look at another store to compare prices. thats when i fell in love with maggie sottero. since finding 'the dress' i have been calling places to find the best price.

when you first try on dresses its to see what styles fit you best and to cancel out dresses you thought looked great in a magazine but not on you. --for example, you may have fallen in love with a how a mermaid gown looks but after trying on a few dresses (especially try on types you'd never think you'd like!!) you realize an a-line is the best style for your body.
if you fall in love with a dress there's no reason you can't go back in a few weeks and order it (unless its a sample sale or something like that)..
trying on dresses is FUN!! its good you're going now so that you have time to make decisions.
good luck! and don't feel under pressure!!

Re: which dress salon to visit first??? a lil confused
first I went David's bridal to just get an idea of what kind of style i wanted. After that i went to several boutiques but i never found anything I went to RK bridal and let me tell you they have a huge selection of dresses i tried on a lot! there they are very nice! but didn't find anything...I then went to Macy's in Herald Square and they were excellent the services was phenomenal. I found the one there. Since my mom is buying me the dress along with my father paying for the hall i didn't want my mom to spend more than a certain amount so since i fell in love with a demetrios gown i called various shops in long island to find out if they had it and for how much... so the dress i tried on at macys that i fell in love with happened to be at this shop and i got a great price! so def shop around and if you see something call other places you might find them cheaper like i did

i went to kleinfeld's first because of their selection, but they were really pushy and wanted another 1000 for alterations, so from there i had a better idea of which designers i wanted, fabric etc. and i went to like 15 other salons lolol
i would suggest hitting up a place with a huge selection first, if you fall in love with a dress you can always price out at diff salons unless its an older style that you may not find at other places or if its the sample or something like that

im a lillettes girl myself. I found the dress there, it was the second i tried on. I still went to two other places and tried on tons of dresses. At the end of the day I went back to Lillettes and bought the dress!! goodluck!!
Re: which dress salon to visit first??? a lil confused
Just an FYI: I had a list of prob about 20 maggie sottero dresses I wanted to try and the shops I went to carry the designer but Fantasia only had 2 styles off my list and Centereach Bridal had NONE! So, if there is a particular one you are in love with, call around to see who has that dress, if you like the ladies in a particular shop, you can always go back there to order it. Try to find out when the trunk shows are for that designer that when they will have all the dresses!
