Which name comes first?

This a rather silly question but i must settle a tif with my mom..
When you sign cards, who comes first the male or female?
ex Jane & John OR John & Jane

I think etiquette is ladies first, but when I'm signing something for my family or friends I put my name first but if it's for his side I put his name first.

if it for the wedding I would put his name first. But if it is for something casual I would put the name of the person who is friends with where we are going
