Whatever is more important to you. Have you always dreamed of getting married in your church? Maybe that's a search to be done at the same time. Check out your options of days for the church and the hall. Find the one that matches. How flexible is your wedding date?

You actually have to book them together. I first looked for the right reception hall (but told them I did not have the church yet) they were nice enough to hold the date for a week while I got the church all settled.

It should not be a problem!!!

my date isn't really flexible at all, because fh works and at the end of october is when he gets to take that week or two off, depending how busy he is.

It also depends how far in advance you are planning. Halls will book far ahead but some churches won't book until a year or a year and a half away. We booked the hall but can't book our church yet cause it's too far away

good luck!

I've heard of priests getting really PO'd when the reception is booked 1st. Naturally, they feel the wedding ceremony is more important than the reception. So, don't tell your priest if you book your hall 1st.

out of respect for the church you should go to them first. when i went to my church they told me that all of october was opened and that i should go to the halls and then call them back...when i called back they actually held three dates for me, and then i picked one....good luck!!!

Well, if you have your heart set on a church, then book that first. I, on the other hand, booked my reception hall first since that is the hardest decision and is the one you're spending a lot of money on, and then booked my church which was free. Reception halls are the toughest to pick.

I very much doubt a church would be booked by your date already. Halls are the ones that book faster, I think.

i was told that you need to book the church first becuase you dont want to worry about having to get a different church. also with baptismals and regular masses its hard to get the church time.

Honestly, I had problems finding an available date with my hall. But I had no problem once I knew the day with the church. My day was open. Why not find a reception hall you're happy with, see if they have your day and before booking them, see if your church has it open?

I've been told the same as some other people have said: you should book your church first. The ceremony is supposed to be more important than the reception because the reception is the party but the ceremony is the sacrament - I believe that is the thinking behind it.

What we did was just like another poster. We called the church and they were able to tell us if a few dates were available or not. We then booked the hall, then went back and booked the church.

I called my church first to see if our date was available and it was. Then we started to look at halls. We booked the church and hall in the same weekend

Re: which one first???

I guess I'm a horrible Catholic for booking the hall weeks before I booked the church. Oops! I guess I was more into the hall since that was pretty important to me at finding a place that I liked that was decent with pricing and everything since it was going to be costing me a lot of money.

What we did was picked the hall and asked them to hold a date. Then we went to the chruch and found out what thye had available! Technically we booked the church first but hall was already reserved!
A friend of mine called the church first, found out what days they had available and then found the hall. Remember on Saturdays(if thats what you are looking for) most churches do 3 ceremonies so the chances are good that one of the there will be open!

Good Luck!

Our Priest actually asked us if we booked a reception hall first then when I said no he said now you get extra points with me you can have any date you want. They get very upset when you do the hall first. I looked at the halls and got an idea of what we liked asked if they had a few dates available and then went to the church and booked that first then immediately went back to the hall we wanted and put a deposit down.

We booked the church first. My hall didn't have the date we wanted so we chose another date and the BM held the date at the hall until we confirmed the new date with the church.

Re: which one first???

I booked my hall first. But when they wrote up the contract they wrote it as 'subject to the availability of the Church' and I had a week to get back to them and change the date if it wasn't available. My BM said the odds are better that the Church will be available that day, than the other way around because the Church is just for your local area and not every bride in Long Island like a catering hall.
