I just finished the seating arrangements for my Saturday wedding. My mom now informs me that the bride's side of the family must sit on the right side of the room. I have my family on the left. I didn't know there were such rules.
I am going crazy - Is my mom right????

I don't think it matters either. I am mixing mine too.. I think some members of my family will get along better with FILs than with our own!

Re: Which side of the room???
i can't wait to hear the responses to this one.
Personally I would not give it a second thought, but I'm thinking back to all the weddings I have been to recently. As the guests look at the couple, the bride sits on the right and her family on the right hand side of the room.

Re: Which side of the room???
I know it doesn't really matter but I think my mom is trying to point out some old school rules of etiquette. My mom is the type of person to say that it will be ok with the left but deep down inside she will want me to change everything!
Saturday can not come soon enough. All of these little details are driving me crazy!

At the church it's on the right hand - the reception has no real etiquette. At least I don't think so

Re: Which side of the room???
Does she mean the church/ceremony, or the reception itself ? I think there is a particular arrangement for the church (although I don't know what it is - sorry!), but I don't see how it could matter at the reception. What the heck, do what you want! I don't think people will notice, or care for that matter!

Re: Which side of the room???
It doesn't matter... you should be sitting on your husband's right side, but the only time it even really matters (and even this is arguable) is during the ceremony.

Re: Which side of the room???
I dont think there is a right or a wrong way persay..
Although all the weddings that I have been to the brides family did sit on the right...I always thought if the bride sits to the right of the groom than thats where her guests should be...but im wacko!

Re: Which side of the room???
If you are talking about the ceremony, if it is a christian wedding...the brides family is on the right and if it is a Jewish wedding, the bride is on the left. Good question, because Im having an interfaith, and I hope the Cantor and priest are okay with me on the right side.
If you are talking about the reception, I would say you should sit them whereever you like. I actually think it is rude to divide the families and friends. Especially, because not only are we interfaith, we are interrace. Spanish/Jewish. I don't like the idea of division!
ETA: LOL, at the ceremony....When we are talking left or right, are we basing it if we face the clergy or the guests. If we face the clergy, my answers above reflect the opposite! LOL

Re: Which side of the room???
I hope there is not a right or wrong/left way. I had planned on putting most of my family on the left side.

Re: Which side of the room???
Thanks for all the replies. I truly know it doesn't really matter, but you can really drive yourself crazy with the all of the little details. My mom still wanted the right side of the room, so I changed the table numbers. I don't even want to look at the sheet again!
People are telling me to enjoy all of these little problems, but I am beginning to wonder!!

Re: Which side of the room???
Good luck!
I've only heard of the right/left side issues for during the ceremony- and then it gets mixed up if there starts to be a big difference between the two. This will probably be based on the ushers judgement.
For reception seating just do what seems to feel right. Good luck with your mom

Re: Which side of the room???
I'm sitting people all over the place..
The way I look at it, this is the joining of two families, I'm not going to segregate them.

Re: Which side of the room???
the bride's parent's table is always number 1....so whatever side #1 is on on your seating chart that's where the brides family goes when sitting at the dais, the brides family is to the left
