White Gold Re-Dip

Is anyone getting their E-Ring redipped before their wedding? I have a pave band and setting and and curious how they would dip it without touching my diamonds? My ring looks good now but the back of my band is starting to turn a little.

How often or not often are you supposed to do this??

Haha yea I was told that there really is no such thing as white gold and if you have a piece of white gold jewelry, it is really yellow gold plated with something. Eventually the 'white gold' fades and needs to be re-dipped.

White Gold Re-Dip

It's rhodium plated. I took a jewelry course in college. From what I understand the whole plating process makes the rhodium adhere to the gold and it won't do so to the diamonds. Don't quote me though haha! I know platinum is more money, but this is why I didn't get white gold.

White Gold Re-Dip

That's so funny, I was just told the SAME thing this weekend about there being no such thing as white gold. Mine seems to be ok so far but maybe I'll have it touched up right before.

Re: White Gold Re-Dip

I was told the same thing at my jeweler. Are we all talking about Jared? lol

I got mine in May and the solid metal part on the bottom of the ring turned yellowish when i went away to Nantucket over the summer... they said it sometimes reacts with minerals and chemicals in the water, or your sweat. They re-dipped it and it looks FABULOUS! I'll probably have it done once a year and will definitely get it done right before the wedding. Most of it is small diamonds and they were not affected.

White Gold Re-Dip

I find it so weird, because I wear a white gold ring that I have worn every day since I got it in 2008 and have not had to get it dipped at all. I had a friend that has hers redipped every 6 months or so because it turns yellow, but I've never had that experience.

EDITED for kitty cat paw errors lol

Re: White Gold Re-Dip

My FH got my ring at zales and everytime they inspect it for the warranty they send it it out, clean it and dip it and it looks brand new! Its funny because when my ring started turning yellow i thought my FH got ripped off. i went to complain and they said it was normal.lol oops!! Had no idea. Haha. so every six months i take it so they can inspect it

White Gold Re-Dip

My ring isnt gold so I havent had to do this. But, I had yellow gold diamond studs that I dipped in white gold. The diamonds are not effected. The rhodium or whatever alloy doesn't adhere to them.

Re: White Gold Re-Dip

I get mine done every 6 months. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless you dont have some type of care plan. FH got my ring from Barclay and they charge $50 for redipping but its included in my care plan so I never have to pay

White Gold Re-Dip

FH got the extended service plan from Jared and as long as I bring it in for inspection every 6 months, they'll replace the little diamonds if they fall out, re-dip, clean, tighten, polish, the works, for life, for free!

White Gold Re-Dip

I to didnt know this when I first got my ring but I soon found out. Ive had my ring over a yr now and it is perfectly fine. When I buy my wedding band I will compare both rings to see if my ering needs redipping.

White Gold Re-Dip

White gold needs to be redipped but it looks brand new when it is done. Platinum does nto need to be re dipped but it can scratch as it is not stronger metal. They are both beautiful.
It does not affect your stones at all and small jewlery places shoudl be able to do it right in front of you. Side note never let someone take your ring behind a counter without you being there. A good jewler will let you accompany your ring 'behind the scenes'.
oh, I use gorgeous diamonds in massapequa on merrick rd. (thats who does it for free).
Hope this helps
