white or ivory?

I have to choose a color for my wedding dress....my initial instinct was to go with IVORY b/c I just love it......
my dress is also very simple, so I figure that ivory will make it look richer than just plain white.
I have medium skin and dark hair, and someone told me that ivory is better on lighter skin....not sure what to do! I held both up to my face but I cannot even tell anymore. All this looking has gotten me confused!
Any advice on choosing color?

HAHA I still don't know the differences in whites! My BF just ordered her dress. She has a daker skin tone and brown hair (oooh you lucky italian girls have great coloring!) she chose white and it looks stunning! I think for your skin, the whiter the better! A creamy white will make your skin look dull or even yellowish.

I haven't started look at dresses yet, but since we got engaged I've thought that I might be open to the possibility of liking an ivory dress ... that I'm not set on wanting a white dress.

When I told FMIL this she says 'well, you know, ivory is usually for 2nd weddings ...'

UGH!!! I totally don't agree with that and it made me so upset to hear! And I plan to ignore it when I go dress shopping!

I agree with the suggestion to try the dress on in both colors if you can, that might help.

since you have a medium complexion, I think it's up to your preference..... In general, if you're really pale like me, ivory is better (white is too white), and if you have black, brown, or deep olive skin, a bright white dress is really stunning....

Maybe you should just look at swatches of the dress fabric in each shade, and see which you think looks best? Some dresses look much better in ivory, and others in white....

it really depends on what looks good on you. I am wearing ivory because it goes beautiful with my skin tone. White was too bright for me.

Same here...

It really depends on which color dress looks better on you. I tried on 6 white dresses and I thought I looked horrible, then I tried on my dress, which is ivory. It's whatever works with your skin complexion.
