who can perform a wedding ceremony?

My FH and I want a former teacher of ours to perform our wedding ceremony. How can we do this legally? NY seems to be somewhat picky about who can legally perform marriage. Anyone know anything about this?

I don't have too much info on this but my friend who married us got ordained to do another friend's wedding a couple of years ago. It was really cool to have someone close to us perform the ceremony.

Just google how to become an ordaine minister and you can purchase the materials and license needed. It's pretty easy from what I understand.

I heard about one couple having a friend perform the marriage and just having an officiant their to sign the license.

check with your marriage license office about what on-line places they accept for ordainment! DH's sis got ordained on-line to marry us & it turned out it wasn't accepted by our town (found out while applying for license)...so what we ended up doing was have her perform the majority of the service...and the Town Clerk come do what was necessary to make it all legal...worked out great! HTH!
