I am going dress shopping tomorrow for the first time!!!!!! I am looking at my dress and the BM's dresses. Can you please tell me who is supposed to come with you? I know my mother and i want my sister as well. But do you have to ask FMIL too? I do not want to hurt her feelings but i also want this special time with my mother also.

I do not plan on asking FMIL to come along looking for dresses due to her lack of participation throughout the wedding planning thus far. However I plan to ask my grandma to join my mother and I. And then when it comes to the BM dresses it'll be the BMs, myself, and my mom.

I went with 4 people -my mother, my MOH's (2 sisters) and 1 of my BM's. It was ok for the first time but I would only go with one person in the future and I actually am going to go looking on my own now too. Too many opinions it was too hard to get a good idea of what I liked with so many other opinions. Some loved ones and were saying thats the one. I later went on my own and tried it on again and hated. You really have to tune out everyone's opinion and really listen to yourself... which is hard with a lot of people I found.

Also for the BM dresses I am going to go once with the 3 MOH's to get an idea of what they like but I am going to go back on my own to make the decision and pick the dress. I have already found that everyone wants and likes something different. So as much I was I want them to be happy I am not going to please everyone so I am going make the final decision (without them bickering about it). I will let them have variations on the dress so they are comfortable.. but I am going to pick the dresses for them to choose from. Less of a headache.

i only allowed my mom and BMs I want it to be a suprise to everyone else....but I also have only 4 BMs if you have a lot of girls I would keep it to your mom and MOH but thats JMO

You don't have to invite anyone that you don't want to. When you find a dress, then you can ask her to come.

The first time I went dress shopping I took my mom and my sister with me. I did not want too many people there I think it can be overwhelming. I do not think you need to invite your FMIL.

I went with my mom the first couple of times. Then on a whim I called up my MOH and one of my BM's and we looked at dresses for them and me. Still didnt find the one so then I eneded up going to POB in NYC with a friend an found it!!!!

You can go with your MOM or MOH. I took my MOH with me when I went dress shopping. The less people, the better. Because when you take more then everyone is giving their opinion of the dress they would like

FMIL did not come with me, I'll ask her to come to one of the fittings. But honestly I felt like this was something my mother and sisters should share with me in.

It's totally up to you. I had just my Mom and Sister come with me. You could always take FMIL with you after you order your dress so she can see it and feel included.

I went shopping for the 2 seperate... but when I went for my dress, I went with my sister one time, my mom and sister another, and my friend another time. WHen I was looking at BM dresses I went with my MOH and sister (who is one of my BM's)

I usually only take my mom, my 2 sistes have so many opinions!! But when I found my dress I was with my mom and my best friend! Only take who you're comfortable with, too many opinions will make you crazy!!

Go with whoever you want, who makes you comfortable and who will be supportive! For me, this was not FMIL, she's great but I wouldn't have felt as comfortable.

There is no rule as to who should come with you. If your MOH, BP and your Mom are nearby, then any or all of them would be fun, but there is no tradition, other than your Mother, coming with you, and that was because traditionally your parents bought the dress!!!
Go when you want and when you can!!! Bring those whose opinions you want to see the styles you narrowed it down to!!
I went to 'try it out' alone and bought my dress . . . . without anyone there . . . . it doesn't matter if you have 5 or 0 people there, you will and should pick what you want.
My friends have come back with me to see it and loved it, but I felt the dress was really a personal decision, I didn't need/want 10 different opinions.
