I absolutely love Martha's poncho. I can't tell you how much time I've spent online trying to find a pattern similar to her's. I think I can manage the stitch and the edging, but I don't know how the neckline is made and if it's make in one piece. I would really appreciate help on this.
Re: Who crochets well - or has a mom who can help?
Swags, I've seen the different patterns that already are online for Martha Stewart's poncho. The one I like starts at the neck and works in a circle going to the bottom. Thanks so much for offering anyway. I'm sure it's gorgeous. What color did your mom make yours?

It's called variegated - those are the nicest I think. They seem to go with more colors that way.

I finished my Martha poncho and wore it to work today! I got so many compliments. I was so proud that some people actually asked, 'is that the Martha poncho?' and others wanted the pattern. Not bad for a newbie!

Sasha, that's wonderful. Congratulations! Please tell me - what kind of yarn and what color did you use? Did you use the Lion brand pattern? Did you have any trouble with the neckline being too small? Some people are saying the pattern was too vague with the collar. I'm planning on starting mine tomorrow.
Are you going to post a picture? I would love to see it.

I'll try to post a pic. At times the pattern seemed vague but I did my own thing and it turned out just fine. For the collar I basically sc 6 rows onto the original chain and it looks great! I used Lion Brand Homespun but didn't use Martha's Regency. I didn't want blue. I used French Provincial and I love it! Good luck with the pattern!

I decided to use romanesque. I love it. I'll let you know how I progress. Maybe I'll be calling on you for advice, Sacha. You seemed more experienced than I am.

I'll be here if you I can be of any help! I don't know if I have that much experience, but at least I have done one poncho with that pattern! I'll go try to post a pic now. Good luck with it. I have to look up Romanesque b/c I don't know which one it is!

What a gorgeous poncho. You did use the Lion Brand pattern, right? The 44 chain stitches were enough, and the collar is added on after the poncho is completed?
When it was done, did you press or steam it, or do anything else? I can't wait for mine to be done.
Thank you so much for posting the picture.

Yeah, the 44 were enough for me! I did the collar after, basically just sc onto the chain of 44. I didn't steam or press it at all...I finished and put it on! Post pics when yours is done!

Hi Sasha, I actually decided to make a different 'Martha' pattern. If you'd like to see it, it's at http://www.maggiescrochet.com/
So far it's really pretty and I like the K hook for it. I think a thicker hook wouldn't give it as neat a look as I would like.
I hope it doesn't take too long to finish it. I'm on round 9 only.
