Who else is getting married and then first moving in together to a brand new place?
FH and I found an apartment a couple of weeks ago. We have a 5/15 lease date, and will start moving stuff in then, but will not be living together until after we get back from our honeymoon. Although I'm happy we are doing things this way, I feel so much added stress. Not only are we planning a wedding, but we are both moving out of our childhood homes and need EVERYTHING for our new apartment. Most of my friends who are getting married already live together, so I wanted to see who else out there was going through this too!

Me too. We got our apartment April 1st and we will not be living in it until Sept 18th. We can enough time to paint, clean, get organized and have everything done so we do not have to do it after the HM.

I can totally relate to what you're saying. We will be going through this too. I was talking to FH last night about it. I was saying that it is going to be so weird living without my parent's and brother. I am so excited about it but then when I really think about it, I get a little sad. This is all about growing up and leaving the nest. I am sure, at first, it will be a little strange, but we will get used to it. You will too!!

When we get married I'll not only be leaving my home I'll be leaving NY. Since my FI is in the Navy I'll be moving to whereever he is stationed. He is trying for either Florida or Hawaii. Our ultimate goal is to settle down in Florida when he leaves the Navy.

We are signing a lease tomorrow, and FH is moving in May 1. I will move in after the wedding. It is going to be weird, but it's exciting too.

I moved to a new COUNTRY!!
But, we had both lived away from home for quite a while and he even lived in the States for a while away from his friends and family, so it's not really the same thing.

When we get married I'll not only be leaving my home I'll be leaving NY. Since my FI is in the Navy I'll be moving to whereever he is stationed. He is trying for either Florida or Hawaii. Our ultimate goal is to settle down in Florida when he leaves the Navy.
I hear ya!!! I am moving to NJ b/c that is where my FH is from, and he has a better job! Our lease starts july 1, he is moving in then, i am moving in after the wedding. it is a little stressful, but i am very glad we are waiting to live together!

Yeah, part of the stress is because of the separation from my family. I mean, I went away to college, but then I always knew I was coming back to my bedroom. Also, my sister and brother in law and nephews live 5 minutes from my parents, on Staten Island, so I feel like I'm going to be so much more distant in Queens.
The other part of the stress is just having to get the apartment ready and get settled in. Just more stuff to get done before the big day!

Yeah. I have a few years, but I'm going to go through the same thing. We're not going to live together until we're married, but FH is getting an apartment now that we'll ue after we're married. I think it's going to b a struggle to get the apartment from 'his' to 'ours'

We'll be going through the same thing. We were looking to buy a place, and if we do, he will live in it until the wedding, and I will move in after...It is hard to pack up everything!

me. We bought a house that we are redoing now and it will be ready for when we are married and then we will be moving in and living togeather for the first time. I am so so so so excited..i am looking forward to living with my husband for the first time ever and starting our life togeather.

Fh and I are also moving in together after the honeymoon. We both still live at home with our parents, however we closed on our home in Westchester in February. We are fixing it up a little (painting, getting furniture, etc) and we will move in right after we come back from the honeymoon. We can't wait!! It is added stress (esp. since I live on LI now and I go back and forth to Westchester almost everyday), but luckily we got everything we need at my bridal shower.

FI and I bought a house in Roslyn a few months ago. We are moving in after the wedding. It is stressful - but luckily the house doesn't need much work!

We did this.
It is very stressfull, yes- but it was so worth it to wait. It really made it so special for both of us- to build our own home together and have a brand new start.

FH and I both currently live at home but are scheduled to close on our new house June 1st and are getting married 3 weeks later! Neither of us is moving into the house before the wedding!
I personally wouldnt do it any other way! I am so excited about how our life is forming and to me it makes it even more special that our wedding day truly starts the new chapter in our lives. My MOH lived with her DH for 2 years before the wedding. Afterwards she said when people asked how married life was she felt like saying 'Um....just like it was before'. I guess for me I just didnt want that!!!

But my sister always says you have to live together first b/c it's a whole different experience and you should know that you can stand each other before you get married. Don't know what to do. FH lease isn't up until 2-3 months before the wedding.

FH currently lives in our home. But I still live at home with Dad. Though I have lived away from home... after the honeymoon FH and I will be living together for the first time. I'm not really stressed about the move though because well, it's just me that's moving, not both of us and because I plan to start moving in my stuff little by little before the wedding so that when we get back from the HM there's isn't much left to do. I'm so excited -- I can't WAIT!!!

My personal opinion is that you don’t NEED to live together before hand to know if you can “stand” each other! To some they feel its necessary and to each their own! But unless you really feel the need to live together before hand, why do it? If you really want to that’s one thing, but don’t do it simply because your sister is influencing you.
Honestly if you do move in with your FH in the situation he is now, I don’t see how its going to benefit you b/c you are not learning if you can stand living with him, you are learning if you can stand living with his roommates and you aren’t marrying them!
