Who else thinks tipping it out of control?

I plan on tipping the Maitre D and the photographer and videographer, since they will be putting in the most work, but everyone else I just feel it paid very well and why should there be more?

I agree and I am sickened by the amount of $$ that goes on tips...I am not opposed to tipping, but I am fed up with vendors expecting tips. A TIP should be given for extraordinary service, IMO, not for doing your job!

What about the limo drivers?

I thought we only tip the following:
1) Matire D
2) Limo Drivers
3) DJ

EXCELLENT POST!!!!!!

I am tipping the Maitre D and the limo driver. all my vendors work for themselves... and unless they WOW me with the job they did for my wedding, I am not planning to tip.

I just want to add that if you're not considering feeding your vendors (like photographer/DJ/band, etc) that you might want to reconsider. They’re not robots and will be on their feet working for you… you should want to feed them. I don’t know about you, but when I am hungry I don’t concentrate that well.

These are my calculaitons:

Maitre 'D - $400 (my hall said 'recommended' is $500-600 - but I only have 100 guests!) Because I have so few guests, I'm thinking of doing $350
Bridal Attendant - $50 each = $100
Limos - $50 each = $100
DJ - $100 MC, $50 DJ, $50 Percussionist
Video - $100
Photo - $100 each = $200

I was talking to FH about this yesterday..where is the extra hundreds we'll need for tips supposed to come from? I am trying to see what I can do to save that extra $$ but its so disgusting to me.

Tipping in my opinion should only be given for extraordinary work!

As far as being told that you must feed these people, I can see the photographer since he/she is with you all day, but the DJ or band works their 4-5 hours and leaves.... Do you get a good free meal when you work only 5 hours from the people who are paying your salary? Who started that policy????

All the tipping definately adds up! and if you're having a large number of guests, like we are, the tip for the Matire D adds up to ALOT!! If a vendor is the owner of the business we wont be tipping.

Gratuity for the limos are included but we will tip the drivers an extra $50 each anyway.

I posted about feeding the vendors b/c that's just my opinion. the DJ/band may only be performing or playing for 5 hours, but they have to get there, then set up, then test their equipment, then play all day/night and then break down their equipment. I'm feeding my vendors. it's 1/2 price at my hall.... and it makes me feel better to know they won’t be working while they’re hungry.
