who got their taxes already

Original post by Espo22

well we gave them in last week and today we go to pick it up and find out how much we get back. OH GOD more than any other year we need it this year, well all of us im sure need it more this year than other years. I just want to pay most of my hall NOW. They did this whole payment plan for us at the RH, so we pay every 2-3 months an installment and then 10 days before we will have about half left to give. If we get a decent amount back today then it'd go mostly towards the RH, and this way for the last 3 months i dont have to sit here and keep going to make payments.

So who has got theirs back already? Anybody effected bc of the new rebate laws? for good or bad? With the new rebate laws i dont know what to expect

Good luck to the rest of you ladies, i know we're all praying

i'm still waiting for a K-1 from one of my investments. it's driving me NUTS because I want them done.

i don't qualify for any rebates and also use turbo tax which is awesome and so easy. last year i got around $6k back and that was with only a partial year of owning my place!

those are numbers i like to see and want to see ...i get alot taken out bc from my paycheck they take out ny and nj taxes, so i get taken out more than you ladies but good part is when i get taxes back i get back from ny and nj so i get more checks back

yeah I claim 0 and have a few deductions but they also seriously over withhold on my bonus and i let them because i get more back during tax time! so it's like getting another bonus. I hope the same happens this year - having that money will be awesome.

VERY TRUE, my bonus is heavily taxed too so that will help.

Also dont you get deductible from your maintenance? i know some buildings are 30% back and others between 40-50%

I have not filed yet. I always wait till the last minute. I try to block it out until the deadline

Is it true that you can deduct your donation to your church where you had your ceremony?

i actually feel i waited too long hahahaha, i shouldve dont this a month ago...but i also need it for wedding things NOW

with the whole donation thing it goes by a certain amount you donate...its a bit of a high number...so not sure how much of a difference it will make. But ask your accountant. This girl who always donates was talking about this and said the amount

donations help just a little. I always give to cancer walks etc so i always put down like $100-$200 and it helps a little and you don't need a receipt. I'm definitely going to put my officiant down - i can use every penny!

yup I think mine is 48%. So I get that and the mortgage interest... and it's only the second year so my mortgage is primarily interest so that's good.

anyone know what puts you in the alternative minimum tax bracket? I can never find out if it's an amount you have to make, or based on a lack of deductions.

Re: who got their taxes already

My dad is a CPA and already sent me back my forms. I'm getting a large chunk back ($3500) especially considering I only worked 12 weeks last year. I made a very nice salary at my summer job but they taxed me as if I made that amount all year when I clearly did not

FH didn't get his stuff back yet but we're hoping he gets a nice chunk back too -- he started working full time in may and he's in the same situation (taxed as if he made that amount all year).

Re: who got their taxes already

Im pissed, there was a problem with my taxes bc of the whole thing with me working in jersey and living in the city...ive been warned by others who had the same problem but last year there wasnt a problem. My tax guy said hes trying to fix it bc theyre trying to screw me...One check is fine but then another one is screwed up...if they dont do the right things when giving you your papers, it can F*CK you badly...so i have to wait a few days now but yeah not happy. I get taxes taken out of my paycheck for state taxes, city taxes and new jersey taxes and now this bs

FH Is PISSED and i mean pissed lol. He paid 11k in federal taxes and isnt happy with how much he gets back and i dont blame him...He shouldnt get around the same as me, and his brother who makes less got back more money. Not to mention he paid 5k to social security and not like he'll ever get to see any of that since it wont be around when we get old im glad we keep having to pay it. But we basically figured out the less you make the more youre getting back. The funny part is he said hes going to work and telling them he doesnt want to claim 0 anymore bc it gets him nowhere, they take ALOT out of his paycheck and doesnt get back alot, i had to remind him that he didnt have to do that bc next year he will be married so wont be 0. The only good thing is we're buying a place so next year we'll get back bc of that, plus we're buying an apartment so maintenance is anywhere from 30-50% deductible so we can get back maybe 50% what we paid in maintenance.

I was under the impression that maintenance was NOT deductible, only interest.

DO I have to call my accountant?

Wh ave been pre approved straight to close for a mortgage, and one of the things outrmortgage broker reminded us of fervently was that maint. fees were not a write off. Co op, or condo??
