My hair was huge in hs - it went down slowly thru college. Till it was all one length and flat curls. My preppy college buddies helped me to successfully move into gap like clothing in those 4 years. Now my hair is pretty flat on my head and blow it straight. No one from hs even recognizes me. I went to hs and this guy who had his locker next to me all 4 years of hs and had classes together and he had no clue who I was.
I don't have any pictures of it scanned....but let's say I can definitely rival wacky. I have a very similar prom picture.
I don't miss the big hair but as much as I cringe at the pictures when I look back - I remember it was actually in fashion for us (former) guidettes and how my friends who didn't master the art of big hair were jealous! lol I was more of a final net girl - never really got into Aqua Net...

My best friend tried to tease my hair and it always looked ratty afterwards. I HATED it. Best friend used VaVoom hairspray. I can still picture her in the bathroom before homeroom with her BIG bottle of hairspray gripped between her knees as she used an ancient lavendar pick to tease her hair

I was also a victim of the big hair phase. Actually, I loved it, the bigger the better for me. I wore so much hairspray in my hair...and for my Sweet 16 I wanted to look extra special so I put tons of effort (read-Stiff Stuff) into my hair. My party was at Tony Romas on Crossbay Blvd in Howard Beach-they brought out my cake w. those high candles, and when I went to blow them out, my hair caught on fire. There was so much hairspray in my hair that only the hairspray burned, my hair was totally unsinged and fine. My boyfriend at the time said it was like a flash fire
I was so dumb that instead of being traumatized that my hair went up in flames, I was pis$ed that the side of my hair was flat, and ran to the ladies to respray it. Ah, the 80s

Weren't those the thing to have? Of course you wore it around your neck, where else would you wear it??!?! Everyone had to see how many diamonds yours had. My HS boyfriend got me one but instead of 'our date' he got my birthdate engraved on it and I was very upset. Too funny!!

God I miss the 80's!!! I loved my hair big w/ a body wave in it!!!
My friends & I went out to eat at Piccolo Bussola (It's an Itialian Family Style restaraunt) near Roosevelt Field. And there were about 4 or 5 ladies who were still in 80's mode w/ their hair!!!

Ankle bracelets and DOUBLE NAME PLATES, of course! (cannot find a pic of that one ..) Mine was a gawdy diamond 'Jimmy & Felicia' ... when we broke up I just had the jeweler cut off the 'Jimmy' part! Smart girl that I was, I wasn't going to waste any jewelry!
Lo and behold, Sex and the City came along and Carrie started wearing hers .. nameplates came back into fashion!! Like my momma always says, EVERYTHING comes back into fashion at some time or another
[not quite sure the big hair will, though ...]

Those pics are great!! I love the hair, but the outfits too are awesome!!! I, sadly, was never really able to get my hair big no matter how hard I tried. I even asked one of my frineds how on earth she did it (she had the 'wall of hair') and she told me curling iron, hairdryer spray it upside down - NEVER worked for me. I had a lot of hair, but just couldn't get the big in front look!! Can't say that I was sad when it left though. I am all for straight flat hair now!!

I'm with you on that one. I was a little too young for big hair when it was all the rage. In Jr. High I had really thick bangs, and I'd do the 'flip/comb over' up top on them, which I guess was my attempt at 'big hair.'
To this day I hate the way I look with big hair. My FH's aunt, who cuts my hair, always styles it with way more body than I can deal with, and I start flattening it as soon as I get in the car.
BTW, I got my first perm a couple of years ago, and even with the perm I still kept it as flat as possible LOL...
