I dont really have a chest, but my mother gave me a box (that she called a hope chest) and she would give me a gift every sunday to put in the box. Nothing big, just simple gifts that i will need one day when i move out - like wooden spoons for cooking :)

That's funny that you said that. Just today I emailed one of my co-workers who is at another office now. i was asking about what type of pots to register for. She mentioned how she got like six sets of sheets at her wedding and remembered thinking what am I going to do with all these. But she said she kept them in - in her hope chest - and ended up using them. I actually thought - who has a hope chest!! At least I knew what she meant

Megan the Amish girls do it that way also. Our Amish niece was a schoolteacher, and she got some beautiful pieces of furniture from the Parents of her students!!!!!!! Her 'room' was filled to the ceiling!!!!!! Mary MOB

I have a hope picnic table in the basement...I would have liked a real one though, I like the way they look at the foot of the bed.

I have a hope chest but its not filled with things for the future. Its my grandmother's - she got it when she was getting married and she always hated it and thought it looked like a coffin so I took it. I love it!

I just googled 'hope chest' and I started tearing up reading info about it. I would LOVE for my mom to do something like that for my shower. Maybe I could throw hints to my MOH?

Did the chest have a rounded lid, that your Grandmother thought it resembled a coffin? Mary MOB

My parents have a picnic table set up in the basement where everything I've been getting has been set up on. We needed to keep it elevated because we're prone to flooding. But it's pretty packed, we might need to start moving things to my nana's house!

That's a cute way to refer to it, Ali!!!!!! My girlhood house was situated not far from a creek, and our basement flooded several times. My Brother and his now Wife, had their appliances, stored in the garage, when one flood was heading for the house. They quickly elevated some things, and I think they took the TV into the house. Re: Who has a hope chest?

I have one that my Uncle (who does carpentry on the side) made me when I was in high school. It is cedar lined and everything. I used to have it at the end of my bed with yearbooks and stuff in it, when I still lived at home. Now it is along the back of FH and my couch. I keep spare sheets and comforter (for the pull out) in it and put all our picture frames on top.

Hi, Meghan!!!!! How are you today? We actually have two cedar chests. My Husband has one and I have one. I've kept different things in them over the yrs., but at present, I have my kids baby clothes, and a few other special things , like a baby gown from my Uncle, who died of a broken neck at age 16. I have all his pics and his baby book. I feel blessed to have inherited these precious things!!!! Mary MOB
