Who has heard of this?

Who has heard of this?

Maybe it's because 95% of wedding I have been to have been family and have been Irish Catholic weddings so this is why I never heard of this- FMIL wants to walk in the procession with FH as the first people out in the ceremony? I thought FH was up there waiting? I feel like this is weird.... It's one thing if she wants to walk him down to the spot but not to music and as part of the procession

Any insight would be awesome because I am dumbfounded!!!!!!

yeah the groom usually waits there, I actually thought it would be nice if fh was walked down the aisle with his parents. Do what ever you want!!! do not do things cause that is the way they are done.

I don't mind FH walkind down with his parents.... FMIL wants it to be part of the procession like she's a bridesmaid or something!

Yeah i thought there is kind of like back round music. Then starts the bridal party. idk... i think i am more annoyed because she is so persistent. Now she is saying she doesn't want to buy a gown. OK so don't. But she doesn't want my mom to look dressier than her. ????? Then wear a gown

I've seen that at Jewish weddings too!!!

Traditionally the groom & best man were up at the altar, but the priest at our church feels like rather than the two of them appear out of no where, it's nice for them to walk down the aisle like 5 minutes before the procession (no music or anything) just so people see them arriving. Casual.

All the parents have walked down the aisle at the weddings I've been to - first, before the bridal party, and when the procession music begins. The groom's parents typically walk together, and then someone escorts the bride's mother.

HTH!

It's not worth fighting over. I just feel like she likes to go tit for tat for everything especially with my mom. She said once that she feels like my mom is getting a bigger spot light? She is walking me down the aisle! SHE RAISED ME!!!!

I feel bad because I think I'm in the same boat, though FMIL isn't saying anything. She's a frigid type of person - not mean, not cruel, actually very nice, but cold, not warm and inviting the way my mom especially is. Unfortunately, last year FSIL (I posted previously) essentially eloped with 15 of us family members as witnesses - unbeknown to us! So FMIL never got to plan her daughter's wedding. I'm trying to keep her involved as much as possible without allow for the leway for her to dictate things... it's a tightrope I feel like I'm walking on! I feel your pain!!!!

Is your FMIL Jewish? (I *think* I remember you saying something in the past, but I could be totally off)

If she is, it's completely normal for her to walk down the aisle with your FH. Traditionally, the order would be:
- grandparents
- groomsmen
- groom with both of his parents
- bridesmaids
- ringbearer/flowergirl
- bride with both of her parents

You can see different orders based on different religions here. HTH!

Wow-- I am pretty sure it isn't for religous reasons considering our wedding is a Friday night. They don't really practice much. She isn't having her husband walk with her. Just her and FH.

OMG you have no idea... fh's family is Chinese, but thankfully not traditional in anyway. His mom joked about the red dress for bride thing and his aunt exclaimed oh no no no, that would never work! LOL. Unfortunately so many family members were not there so we kinda have to make up for that!

Re: Who has heard of this?

In FBIL's wedding the parents all walked in as part of the processional. He wasn't escorted, he simply walked in followed by the best man. I don't remember if the grandparents walked down the aisle, but the parents did, then the officiant, then him, then the best man, then the bridesmaids with the groomsmen, then the maid of honor, flower girl, then bride. He is Jewish, but I don't think it was meant in that way, I think it was just a way to honor the parents.

Re: Who has heard of this?

I have seen it done before and I have to say it's a very nice touch. It just has to be worked out in such a way that FH doesn't see you before hand (like you would have to stay in the limo until you know he is up at the altar and then get out and get ready to walk down.

Now that you mentioned this I think I may suggest this to FH and see if he would like to do this.

Lol. No its not! The groom walks w BOTH parents. Her FMIL wants to walk just w him. Lol geez

Let her do it i guess but leaving his dad out is weird. Makes him look like a mamas boy. Ya know?

And tell her people are all talking about how casually dressed she'll be. Have your mom buy a KILLER gown!
