Who has heard of this?

Original post by harts2976

Maybe it's because 95% of wedding I have been to have been family and have been Irish Catholic weddings so this is why I never heard of this- FMIL wants to walk in the procession with FH as the first people out in the ceremony? I thought FH was up there waiting? I feel like this is weird.... It's one thing if she wants to walk him down to the spot but not to music and as part of the procession

Any insight would be awesome because I am dumbfounded!!!!!!

Thats very common in the jewish religion

Lol. No its not! The groom walks w BOTH parents. Her FMIL wants to walk just w him. Lol geez

Let her do it i guess but leaving his dad out is weird. Makes him look like a mamas boy. Ya know?

And tell her people are all talking about how casually dressed she'll be. Have your mom buy a KILLER gown!

LOL.. I'm not against it I just have never seen or heard of them being in the procession. I have seen where they walk down then a few minutes later starts the main procession. -- if FH want's it its fine-- but I dont get why it's just her and not the father. Who does he walk down with? lol

Is your FMIL Jewish? (I *think* I remember you saying something in the past, but I could be totally off)

If she is, it's completely normal for her to walk down the aisle with your FH. Traditionally, the order would be:
- grandparents
- groomsmen
- groom with both of his parents
- bridesmaids
- ringbearer/flowergirl
- bride with both of her parents

You can see different orders based on different religions here. HTH!

I completely agree!!! I've been in weddings that did both and I was in one where we walked in with the groomsmen and then FH walked in with his mom. Then the bride and her dad.

is FH's family Italian?? On the Italian Catholic side of my family the man walks down with his Mother.

Nope he is jewish.

As i found out tonight apparently its a jewish tradition that the mother walks her son down the aisle. I didnt know this either, but i guess its the same symbolically as your father walking you down the aisle...

I already told FH that he needs to be waiting at the altar for me, and his other bro's will have to walk fmil in. She's caused me a lot of headaches and aggravation and I'm not letting her do whatever she wants anymore lol

Usually at Jewish weddings the groom walks down with his parents.

I'm Italian Catholic and my cousins have all married into Jewish families so we've never actually had a church wedding in my immediate family. i'll be the first! I think it would be nice for FH to walk in with his parents, if they want to. Knowing FH's parents though, they'll be like, taking a seat towards the back of the church to jet out of there as soon as the ceremony is over LOL
