Who is 'hosting?'

Original post by BNBride60

For the purposes of my invitation - who is 'hosting' this wedding? Here is the money breakdown.

My parents - $40,000
FH's parents - $10,000
Me and FH - anything and everything else.

I know FH and I aren't hosting - but are my parents hosting alone, or are both parents hosting? My parents' money is covering the entire reception hall, all the flowers, and my dress. FH's parents' money is covering the ceremony, the RD, the band and part of the photog.

What do you guys think?

ask your mom for her opinion. i bet she'll say to recognize them as well....then at least you can say it was her idea ..... just look at invites with your mom and ask her which wording she prefers as you look at them.

lol, this is exacccctly what i was thinking. a little reverse psychology (or perhaps it's more like suggestive psychology) on mom!

I would say both parents.

We are going to run into a dilemma as well. My mom is paying for the bulk (my parents are seperated), dad is paying for his tux, lol. FH's parents are divorced. He doesn't speak to his mother (who is re-married to a not so nice guy), His father has a GF ( but they are not married) and he's paying for the RD....We're up to the invitations and I have no clue what the HEII to put!!
My mom wants my dads name b/c it's tradition and she wants everything tradtional, but I don't think it's fair. I would love to out FH, but his GF is not a Mrs...I'm getting a headache...sorry if I gave you girls one!

Wow - you've definitely got me beat!

At least you know one thing - sounds like youre leaving FH's mother off. And, if your Mom is paying but she wants your Dad's name on there, then I guess the only person who it could be unfair to (Mom) doesn't think it's unfair so no worries about that. As far as FH's Dad - could you just put 'FH, son of Mr. X'?

did your parents give the money to you or did they give it to your parents??

since they did contribute to the event; i think it is appropriate to include their names on the invitations

i wish i could do that and i could HAVE but i was the one that said no
my mom wanted to put FH's father on
his parents are not together, his mother is dying in a nursing home (i never even met her 'alive'_ she's been in a coma for years

FH's father has not offered one penny so no name for him
my parents are paying and they are 'hosting'

neither - both sets of parents are cutting checks directly to vendors. Some of that $10,000 is going towards the rehersal dinner. His parents are also paying for a Catholic ceremony because I'm not Catholic. Then the rest of it will go for our band. Anything remaining is going to the photographer, and then FH and I will pickup the remaining cost of the photog.

Re: Who is 'hosting?'

My parents contributed more than FH's parents, but both were generous. FH and i paid for more than half of it ourselves. Our invites read:

Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Kara Patrice
to
Todd Charles
son of Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents....

ETA - I'd never dream of leaving FH's parents' names off the invitation, even if they contributed nothing!

I don't want to leave them off either, for sure. It's just whether I should use 'Bride's parents request the honor of your presence.' I anticipate that this is what my Mom will want, but I don't want to hurt the in-laws or make them feel as though I'm ungrateful for their contribution.

I think this wording is entirely appropriate. You might run it by them just to see what they think - but I don't think it's ungrateful at all!

You can put both parents.......like this:

MR & MRS. XXXX
AND
MR. & MRS. XXXX
request the honour ....

This is what I did to keep the peace

I saw that another girl on here, jenlen, did this and I was THRILLED. I thought it was the absloute perfect wording!!! But, now I'm worried that my Mom will feel like this makes it look like they made an equal contribution. I think that, especially since I'm not even Catholic in it's a Catholic ceremony, that's the most appropriate wording, but I fear the wrath of Momzilla!!!!!

Re: Who is 'hosting?'

This is a good question...I also am having difficulty with wording- here is the situation:

My father is giving my FH and I $$ as a present for getting married, we are choosing to put it towards the reception- the amount he has given us is about 1/3 the cost of the wedding (oh, and my birth mother passed away, and my father and stepmother are divorced, but I am still in contact w. my stepmother, as she was in my life for 8 years)...FH's parents are paying for the rehersal dinner and (maybe?) the honeymoon, so I feel that they should be recognized....

I was thinking of wording it:

Together with their parents,
Ms. __bride______ and Mr.____groom____
request the honour of your presence at their marriage.

Would this be considered correct? I thought it would be the easy way to avoid naming my birth mother (whose family would be offended if I just named my step mother) and my stepmother, who if I named it may be awkward for my father, but at the same time showing that our parents are contributing to our wedding....

AHHHH!!! This is so confusing!!! Help?

Are your in-laws REALLY the type to read too much into the invite?

Mine were thrilled we even put their names on it!

My FMIL has actually been fantastic throughout everything so far. She never says anything bad about choices we make, she supports everything we do, and she follows advice she got from friends of hers who are past MOGs - in her words - 'keep your mouth shut and your pocketbook open.' You're right - I don't THINK she'll read too much into the invite no matter how we word it.
