My mother has a huge issue with putting a money bag or box out for people to put their envelopes in. She says it's impersonal, and people should hand their envelope to you rather then just put it in a designated box or bag.
I do see her point, and agree that it's nicer to be handed a card - but I'm worried about having loose envelopes, that I'm going to lose them.
Any way of me getting around this without Pissing Off mom? haha. Maybe I should have a box hidden somewhere that I can just put them in when they're handed to me? Is THAT tacky?
Oy...

we are having a box, I really don't think it is impersonal, people who want to hand you a card will do so, having a box allows you to put the cards away without having to worry...I think you have to veto you mother on this one IMO.

I agree totally. I think a box is a good thing to have for cards so none get lost. I don't think it's impersonal at all. Most people will probably hand the card to you anyway.

just get your mom a money bag, so she can have it when people giver her the card, and she can just drop it in the bag

we are having a bird cage -- also so there are no loose cards laying around -- sometimes when you go to a wedding and there is no place to put the cards you feel like you have to track down the bride and groom to give them your card and they are so busy with enjoying themselves. it's just easier to put out a box or something to hold the cards.

We didnt have a box or a bag really. I have been to weddings where the bride and groom dont every say hi-to me thats a lil rude. I made a point to if nothing else say hi to EVERYONE that came!
I as a bride know that you want to enjoy yourself but Im sure-as most do-youhave people on your guest list that youhavent seen in years...and probably wont for more-regardless of a box or a bag youshould still attempt to say hello to most if not all of your guests.
I 1000000% enjoyed my wedding-yet still said hi to everyone

We didn't have one, but we had a small guest list. What we did was when handed a card, my husband put it in his pocket, and then later we transferred it to the 'safe.' Worked out OK,.

Exactly, what do you do with the cards?!?!?!?!?! Have some type of box to put them in when people hand them to you.

My mom feels exactly the same way. She feels as though people should come to me and hand me an envelope. What I'm going to do is just have a satin bag where I can put the gifts into and my mom said she would hold on to them. As long as she;s ok with holding onto them then i don't care. Personally I would have preferred to have a cardbox, but my mom was against it.

I am doing a photo box ~ but the main reason i am doing it is for me so we don't lose them! I am going to put it near our table were me and FH will sit ~ but we will say hi to everyone! as a guest we always give the card to the bride and groom.
If FH doesnt have a place to put the cards he will definately lose them!

My sister had a white satin bag with a little loop that went around her wrist.
Something like this:

OMG Thank you! Somebody else in the same boat! Yea, I'm going to have to have a little chat with mom. If she's so against a cardbox, then i think this is a good route....SHE can be in charge of holding the envelopes. Some sort of bag is a good idea.
Thanks!

FH's grandpa doesn't walk well either, so he will be the guardian of the birdcage all night. We intend to greet all of our guests and then put any envelopes into the birdcage. Anyone who wants to put the envelopes in themselves can do so too, but they'll have to locate grandpa! (who will probably be sitting closeby anyway)
No matter what you choose to do, you're going to want to say hello to all of the guests, and you're going to want to have a safe place for all of the cards. Good luck!

Re: Who is not having a money bag / gift box?
AN 06er crashing here
I had both. My mom had bought me a money bag and my MIL bought me a envelope box I HAD to use both so neither one would feel bad so I set up the envelope box by the dais/cake table and I still continued to walk around and greet people which gave them a chance to give me an envelope and I put it in the money bag. Made everyone happy!!
If you look to the left corner of my dais, you will see the envelope box. It looks like a wedding cake!
I have a card box, pic in my album. I know a lot of people will hand them to use personally, but I want to be able to stash them somewhere.

Im having a bag, but its not for people to just go over to and put the gift in... I'll be receiving the cards and will put them into the bag myself [or as my MOH to]. Ill probably leave the bag at the dias table...
