Who is not having a money bag / gift box?

Original post by Dalito322

My mother has a huge issue with putting a money bag or box out for people to put their envelopes in. She says it's impersonal, and people should hand their envelope to you rather then just put it in a designated box or bag.

I do see her point, and agree that it's nicer to be handed a card - but I'm worried about having loose envelopes, that I'm going to lose them.

Any way of me getting around this without Pissing Off mom? haha. Maybe I should have a box hidden somewhere that I can just put them in when they're handed to me? Is THAT tacky?

Oy...

I am not having a money bag to carry around or a gift box. I KNOW others disagree, but some people do find them a bit impersonal and rude.

I've honestly never been to a wedding with a gift box and only been to one where the bride carried around a bag with her for the envelopes as the couple went table to table. People just hand you the envelopes when you come around and you can go and hand them off to someone to put in the bridal suite or put them in a bag you keep at the sweetheart table. That's what I plan to do.

I would determine how badly you really want one - is it really worth the argument with your mom? I've learned to pick my battles with the wedding planning - especially the small stuff. Try talking to her to see if you can come to an agreement over it. If not, it may not be worth the argument. However, if you really want one, at least let her know ahead of time - don't try to hide it or just have it there without preparing her for it.

ETF typo.

We're having a photo cube.
I honestly don't expect anyone to just put the cards in there...I think they will give them to us, and we'll put them in there. I thought thats how it is supposed to work anyway

I haven't decided which one to do yet, but am leaning towards the bag type.

I view the birdcage/card box/money bag as something that my guests should NOT use. It is for me and hubby to put the cards in so they will not get lost. A guest should hand you the card and then you drop it into the birdcage/card box/moneybag. I like to thank the couple for a lovely reception, wish them well, etc.... and then hand them the card.
A wedding reception should not be like making a trip to the post office.

we are having a bird cage -- also so there are no loose cards laying around -- sometimes when you go to a wedding and there is no place to put the cards you feel like you have to track down the bride and groom to give them your card and they are so busy with enjoying themselves. it's just easier to put out a box or something to hold the cards.

We're renting a bird cage as well!

we are having a card box but its going to be on our table and its not big 12 x5 4 inches high.. i decorated it so itll just blend in with the table.. we are going to put envelopes in there ourselves so we a have place to keep them when people hand them to us..

we had a box but all my guests ended up handing us the envelopes and then we just gave the envelopes to my mom to hold on to.
