Who is on the South Beach Diet?

I am going to start this tomorrow. I just went food shopping for everything that I will need for the next 2 weeks. Did you follow the menus daily or did you modify it at all?

DH and I did it in the summer...and definitely modified it...what I really liked about it...is that it forced us to eat healthy....whole foods, etc...and we have kept many of those habits...

it also sqooshes fast food cravings....I told someone that I didn't have any erge to eat McDonalds or such and they said someone else said that as well...and now instead of hashbrowns at the diner...i get tomatoes...

the first 2 weeks was VERY tough...I kid you not...but its only 2 weeks...but just remember - everything in moderation

I have been off and on this diet for the past month. I do good for about three days, then I crave pasta and bread. I am starting again tomorrow, hopefully this time I won't cheat!

I got the book last week and plan on tackling it this weekend. I love the fact that on the cover it states how you'll lose stomach fat instantly.

Re: Who is on the South Beach Diet?

I am

I lost 5 lbs this past week but probably gained it back over the weekend and today! LOL

But starting tomorrow I'm going to stay on it. Starting Phase 1 again tomorrow.

I find that when I stay on it I don't crave sweets. But I had a bad evening on Friday and I ate bread. Then Saturday we went out and I drank and again last night. Then today I started off OK but then ate something in a puff pastry.

I do drink tons of water though and I'll start working out daily (interchange with yoga and cardio/fat burning exercises). I want to see how much I can lose without making myself sick.

Similar but IMO, better.

Low carb for 2 weeks. You eat mostly eggs, low fat or no fat cheese, vegetables (no carrots), lean meats (salmon, tuna, chicken, tenerloin is ok, and other lean cuts of beef; veal; pork, fat free deli meats, no fruit, no sodas (or very limited and only diet sodas), no alcohol. No potatoes. No french fries. No bread of any type. No pasta. No rice.
Sugar free jello is good for dessert.
After 2 weeks you can move to Phase 2. You can eat 'good carbs' which is fruits, carrots added to the veg list, any whole wheat or multigrain bread, pumpernickel, rye bread. Whole wheat pasta is ok and so is brown rice. But no potatoes, no white bread and no white rice. Stay on this phase until you lose the desired amount. Still no regular soda (diet OK in small amounts). Fruit for breakfast is the best time to eat fruit. Fat free pudding can be added too for dessert.

After you lose the desired amount you move to Phase 3. I think it's basically same as Phase 2 but you can have some 'bad' carbs but only once in awhile. I have to read the book again and see what it says.

Drink tons of water. Add lemon or lime to it if desired. I drink flavored seltzer - still 0 calories. I heard that you should drink half your weight in ounces of water. So if you weight 160 lbs, drink 80 oz of water, at least, a day.

Atkins says that saturated fats (like pork bacon, or any meat no matter if it's fatty or not) is OK but SBD says 'no leaner is better' and I like that. Atkins limits more carbs, no matter the 'good' or 'bad' carbs.

Get the book, or subscribe to the website.

I only found some inconsistencies. Phase 1 food list says avoid milk and most dairy yet then the recipes include milk and dairy. Weird.
I eat it but stick to fat free or skim.

In his new book, the author says lowfat or fat free milk, and yorgurt is okay in moderation. It is inthe Good Carbs, Bad Carbs book.

I am still in phase 1-if you have a bad carb, do you need to start all over? and my sweets craving is definitley NOT gone!!!!! all i want is a chocolate cookie!!!!
