on the big day?!?! your father or your fh?? I've seen it done both ways! I've always heard that the veil is protecting you from evil and fh is supposed to pull it back out of your face when your pronounced husband and wife, as he will take the resonsibility of protecting you..isn't that soo cute..so i think i want him to do that!

Re: who is pulling back your veil
my fh, but jewish brides have to leave the blusher over their face for most of the ceremony. a friend of mine had her dad do it before he 'gave her' to her fh, it was beautiful

they don't do that in the jewish religion because the groom has to make sure the bride is the woman he should be marrying before the ceremony begins. So I think my veil will already be pulled back?
no, that's why you have the 'bedecken' (translation: veiling) beforehand. the groom is the one who puts the blusher over the brides face after you sign the ketubah.

Re: who is pulling back your veil
I was under the impression that the father is walking her down the aisle warding off evil spirits until the bride arrives at the alter. Then he lifts it and kisses her. Does he traditionally put it back down again? I thought the father was the one that places it to show her face so that the groom would then be please to see who he was marrying? I may be mixing two traditions.

Not sure about warding off spirits... at least not in Jewish tradition... but I'm not sure.
Jewish tradition says that the couple signes the ketubah (marriage contract) and then the groom 'veils' the bride in front of witnesses. Both parents escort the bride down the aisle. Right before they hand her off to the groom, they can lift her veil and kiss her, but my rabbi said that the veil has to go back into place. At the end of the ceremony, the groom uncovers her face, and they're pronounced husband and wife and kiss.
Think I've been planning my wedding for awhile?

I'm not going to have mine over my face to begin with. I don't like them and plan to take it out before the reception.

Hmm, I definitely don't want the veil in my face, although I think its a cute idea to have FH take it off before the kiss. My dad passed away so my mom and brother are both walking me down the aisle, I guess I'll have one of them pull it back but I'm not sure. One more little detail to stress about!!
Oh that is what I will have to do too. Would it be bad to have FH pull it back before we say Ido??
