Who knows about Labor Laws --Update: I am quitting today

I just started a new job this week, and they don't let you take breaks. And if you do take a break you are required to clock out/clock in when you return. They also said that sometimes you work a shift and don't get a lunch.

I know in California their laws are that you are required to take a lunch after 5 hours of work, if you don't, if that company were to get audited they would get in trouble.

Just curious if it was that way around here. And because today they wouldn't even let me go put money in the meter!!!

ETA: I am quitting today. I decided I didn't need the aggravation of that job. So I will be looking for a new one.

4 hours is a 15 minute break,

6 and a half hours is a 30 min. lunch

So what do you do if they won't give you a break.

Are you paid hourly? If so, this is a serious violation of the law.

Yup I am being paid hourly. I just didn't understand today when the girl I am training with she asked to go on a break with me so she could smoke and I had to put money in the meter and they said no, and that I had to run and come right back....Huh, yea buddy I'll walk slow and make it back when I get there. I was so pissed!!!

MAJOR VIOLATION AND SERIOUS FINES. YOU REALLY NEED TO CALL. What do you do? If you don't mind me asking?

NYS Department of Labor. Contact them. These are definite violations. The 30 minutes you get for lunch should be clocked in and out in most places (they don't have to pay you for that half hour, but they have to allow you to take it), and the 15 minute breaks are, I believe, supposed to be paid breaks.
