who knows the city well?

who knows the city well?

Ok i need suggestions. I realized that i never have much luck at stores like bloomies, macy's, and all those when it comes to dresses, and malls too. I do better with boutiques and different types of stores. Ive had some luck at department stores but more times didn't

Theres a bunch of places downtown, i have a few in mind. Now thing is i wont have much time to just go all around the city looking for places so have to be specific about where im going. Theres a few in the meat packing district but theres also nice little boutiques that others can recommend to you that you never would've found out about otherwise

I am going to try this place called mimi's closet, shes a japanese designer who designs her own vintage styled dresses and even has some other vintage stuff. Looking for a more of a retro type look. I have to go friday and saturday so have 2 days to go shopping.

Sorry ... I figured you'd know the city better than most of us ... I used to work in the meatpacking district, and my dad works there now, and when I went into the city with him a while ago we passed scoop, is that a store that might help you? I know it's popular and a little pricey, but I have never been there, just know about it.

And ... did you try Loehmann's? There is one on 7th and 14th or 15th I think, or there was 5 years ago I looooove that store. There is one 5 mins from my apt in Huntington and I go there a lot for dresses and designer stuff on the cheap.

Good luck!

lol yeah i do know it pretty well, but theres always great boutiques others know about it and stuff lol...going shopping downtown can get hectic bc i always end up running around everywhere going nuts, thats what i want to pick specific places.

I think im going to stay away from department stores and stuff but thank you.

Loehmann's is more like an upscale Marshall's (where I have gotten really cute things for cheap, too), not a department store. An overstock sorta thing, they have great designer stuff. I am wearing a pair of jeans now from the designer Salt, originally $140, I got them for $39. I see Arden B things there all the time too, I know you like their stuff.

Good luck!

thats what i was thinking about. Years ago i worked a few blocks away so i shopped there everyday, so trying to remember which places to go to. The antique boutique was good but they changed. Soho is real good, and should try scoop although i probably should stay out of that store, dont want to spend quite that much lol.

Re: who knows the city well?

Denise I was just in Mimi's the other day, she has cute dresses there right now, so def. try and stop in, her inventory changes quickly.

You know, I was just walking to my dr. appt on Friday and remember passing by a store and the window and I was like, wow, what cute dresses, just like how you want. My gyn. is on 80th and 3rd and I was walking up 3rd Ave from the 77th St. stop....so it has to be on 3rd btwn 77th and 80th...on the West side of the street. Really really cute but I don't remember the name.
