The schools? Public? and Catholic? We saw a house we really like this weekend there so I need to get as much info as I can.

Re: Who know's what about Malverne?
Public are HORRIBLE, i think its lakeview school disctrict, not the best... do a search.... but the town is very cute, and they have a great little thing for ground hogs day EVERY year... if your going to catholic or private schools for your kids i would say take a look, but you BORDER lakeview...

Cute little town, but you have to be careful what section you live in. Certain parts go to Malverne schools (VERY BAD) and certain parts go to Valley Stream North or Valley Stream Central. (Not a bad school district _ I went to VSN)
It is a quaint little town, 1 square mile big. Has a train station right in town (though it is a 1 track line) a 'main street' area and pretty nice houses. It borders Valley Stream, Franklin Square, Lakeview and Lynbrook.
Do a drive around and check it out. I would say house prices are probably around high 3's and 4's for the nice parts of this town.
I used to always want to live there when I was growing up, and most of my pals lived there in HS.

My FI lives there. There are many plus and minues to the town. Here are the pluses: you have your own fire department, ambulance, police department (my FI is a Malverne Police Reserve Officer) and it is a mile long. The minuses are: that is does border Lakeview and Hempstead Gardens (which are not that good). and the public schools are not that good. The catholic church/school there is Our Lady Our Lourdes (which my niece attends). There is also a Luthern Church (Grace) at the beginning of town. If there is anything else you would like to know about the town let me know. FM me the block that it is on and I will tell you what is around there.
I love this town!!!

Well, you will have to do a lot of thinking... if the house is what you are looking for, and the taxes fit with your budget.... would you be able to afford private school for your kids? I wouldn't advise sending the kids to public school in that district. ESP. the high school.

The public schools are the only bad thing in that town. If you can offered private or catholic school, they looking more into that house and the town would be great.
My aunt lives in Malverne and her kids went to VS schools. I guess it depnds where in Malverne you live. I live in East Rockaway, it is VERY small 600 kids total 7-12. I had a good experience there but I don't know how it is now.

I also grew up in East Rockaway. My parents sent me and my brothers and sisters to St. Raymond's because they wanted us to have a catholic education. I did not go to the HS either, we all went to Catholic Schools.
ER is a small town. I used to live in the Bay Park Area when I was younger. My parents still live there, but no longer in Bay Park. they live closer to the RVC border now.

Re: Who know's what about Malverne?
nope, that's Far Rockaway.... East Rockaway is a tiny town on the south shore of LI bordered by Lynbrook, Oceanside, Rockville Centre.
When I was in college, if someone asked where I was from and I said East Rokaway, they woud say 'Oh, Queens?' Then I would say near Lynbrook and they'd be like 'Oh, yeah'.

I live in East Rockaway also. We just moved into our apartment and everyone thinks it is in Queens. I moved from Lynbrook. My sister went to Malverne High School.
