I have always thought that it was the mother of the bride. SHould the bridesmaids, usually twenty-somethings, be expected to help financially?

I thought the mother of the bride pays for the engagement and the MOB along with the BMS all chip in? - Maybe this is just my family though!

It really depends on financial issues and such. Technically it is supposed to be the bridal party, it is not supposed to be a family member because then it is like just asking for gifts. But times have changed. My mom payed for my bridal shower and my bridal party chipped in with decorations and did the games and prizes. Nowadays, I think anything goes!!

My mother had no intention of paying for the shower, my parents through us a beautiful engagement party, but my sister recently told her that she was going to help out with it and she didn't seem too opposed. I personally want no involvement or knowledge of my shower, I have enough on my plate.

my bridal party paid- with both MoH chipping in more. I dont have a mom that I am close to so they did it this way.. not only did they throw me a beautiful shower but they chipped in and bought me a digital camera!!!

Ettiquite says that the BP should pay as the Family should not throw an event where hte point is gifts, they say its tacky.
But I think alot of mothers are paying or at least helping out because many BM are not in the position to pay for that event!

My thoughts exactly. 3 of my BM are engaged themselves... so money is VERY tight for them. My mom is footing most of the bill, but my MOH is doing the planning and all the little things so my mom won't have to

My mom and grandma are paying for the shower and my MOH and BMs are helping to organize it. I cannot expect my BMs (some are married, just bought a house, another one is planning on getting engaged soon, one is engaged) to pay for this. This is just too big of an expense for them.

My shower is going to be a surprise (at least in the sense that I don't know when or where - I know I'm having one), so I don't know the specifics, but I'm pretty sure my mom and my sister, who is my MOH are paying. I can't see them asking my BMs, who are mostly in their early 20s and students, for money. But I know that in other situations the BMs do pay for it.

The bridesmaids pay for it, and the MOH is the head honcho in charge. My best friend is so cute! When I asked her to be my MOH she started researching her 'official' duties. She's such a sweetie. She even gets practice, because her sister is getting married this October and she is the MOH for that wedding too.
