We need help. Who typically pays for the engagement party? My mom is interested in throwing one but what did you do?

my mom paid for mine... tradition says the brides family pays for the e party , grooms family for the RD, but you dont have to follow that exactly! we just had about 60 family members at a restaurant, it was really nice.

my parents and FILs split the costs in half bc they both wanted to throw it for us.

reallY?? I always thought the groom's fam did the E-Party since the Bride's typically does the wedding..well back in the 'olden days' haha today it's like all parties are welcomed to make donations haha
*guess I just assumed that also because FMIL said to me on the phone the day we got engaged (they live in Florida) how if they lived here they would have thrown us an E-Party... I was like ok thanks?...

FH's parents paid b/c they hosted it at their awesome house. They got the food catered and decorations. My mom paid for the favors though. (My parents are paying for the wedding)

FH's parents paid for our e-party. We were going to have a joint graduation party but things didn't go as planned so they wanted to have this party for us.
We had it at Sans Souci last October and FMIL did the invites, favors, and decor as that's her business. Pics in my album. We had a great time!

we just had ours last week! it was amazing! my parents so gernerously threw it for us!!! we just payed for the photographer ( white pear photography) and the menus/table #s/thank yous/place cards/shutterfly cards (marie from inviting-you.com)...

my family lives here and his family lives in the midwest so we're throwing two parties. one here paid for by my family and one in the midwest paid for by his family. we thought it too much to ask for his family to fly out for the e party and his parents wanted to throw us one so it kind of worked out this way.
although it's looking like his mom wants to throw us a couples shower instead of an e party.

I really don't think that there are any set rules anymore as to who pays for what.

My family and FH family split the costs. Each paid for their guests. They are also splitting cost of wedding, with myself and FH contributing as well.
I know there are some old rules about who pays, but I think you can do whatever you can. If one family wants or can pay for the party, go ahead. I think it's cool to split though, in my opinion.

We paid for ours. We weren't going to have one and then we decided to so we hosted and paid.

My parents and FIL are splitting the cost of the restaurant half and half. Then FH & I are paying whatever is left, which I don't think is much, just the DJ and a few extras.
Plus I made the invitations myself and also am in the process of making all the centerpieces, which definetly is cutting costs.
And our favors are going to be mini wine bottle per couple with a cute winter theme bag and they are only costing about $4 each.
