We need help. Who typically pays for the engagement party? My mom is interested in throwing one but what did you do?

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
FH and I paid on our own. But, in reality, I guess both parents did since they each gave us 'gifts' of 5k each? So in actuality, we paid but in the end, they split it?

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
FMIL offered to pay for ours. what she did was gave us X amount that she gave to FSIL for hers and my dad picked up the rest.

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
FH's parents are paying for ours. But, because of the location, those attending will be mostly all of his family members.

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
my FIL's paid for it, and our parents are splitting the cost of the wedding. we didnt really want a e-party, but they insisted bc they threw one for FH's brother and didnt think it'd be fair to us. but i dont really think there's anything that says certain people are obligated to pay for w/e. u can do it however u want to really.

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
Not quite sure about what tradition is....I've heard conflicting statements. FIL's paid for our E-party but if they hadn't FH & I were going to.

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
My Dad and his wife. It was really small, back of the restaurant kind of thing. Only 25 people. It was really nice though, It was liking being at a holiday dinner!

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
Our e-party was held at my parents house so they supplied all the food and drinks...FH's parents contributed by hiring the servers

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
typically, the brides parents. my mom threw mine and hosted it, along with help from my sisters and one of my sisters homes in the backyard this past summer. my mom and sisters cooked all the food.

Re: Who pays for the engagement party?
I don't know if there are anymore rules regarding who's paying for what. Afterall, FH and I are paying for the wedding! But his sister paid for the engagement dinner, wasn't really a party and it was before we even decided to have a wedding. so...however the chips fall.
