Just curious as to who's paying for a wedding nowadays with escalating wedding costs. The national avg I heard is 25k. It seems the trend is more couples are paying for their own wedding... I could be wrong. :)

No I think you are right on. Yeah 25k, or around there give or take a few k's is like the magic number. My FI and I are paying for everything. That is the good thing about doing everything a year before the wedding, gives us a little time to save.

I think the national avg in the NYC area is higher than 25k for a wedding, but it's entirely possible to do one for under 20k if you:
1.) invites less guests 2.) have a wedding at a restaurant or home 3.) generous relatives who will help recoup the wedding expenses paid in monetary gifts. :D

i think nowadays, its less common for the brides family to foot the whole bill for the weddng.... for us, we sort of split it up 3 ways- my parents gave us some, dhs parents matched that, and then DH and i paid for the rest.... a wedding is a PARTY, and i don't think the brides family should be obligated to pay for it...education-yes, food/shelter growing up-yes, but a party, i don't know....

FH and i are paying for about 80%, my parents are giving about 20%...and our budget is about 28,000 and we are doing great on it (not including HM)

Mine is 26.8K pre HM and 35.5K after. What a difference from Manhattan..

My parents are paying for the reception. FH's parents are paying for rehearsal dinner and giving us $ towards honeymoon. We are on our own for the rest.

it is not an even split but all will have a part in paying for something... my parents with the largest chunk- the reception, the shower, my bridal entire from head to toe-lots of small odds and ends
my FILs - band, photo, video, limo, florist fh and I- honeymoon- (although my parents gave us their AA miles to use which saved us a bundle) , the rings, the church, the invites, the favors

I think the #s for manhattan are definitely skewed by all the celebrity weddings. Cost is not even a factor for them. Why else would Tiger Woods spend 57 million alone on his honeymoon?

Really? The avg. HM is less than $4K? I bet if you took a poll on here - the avg is thousands higher.

FI's parents are paying for the hall and me andFI are paying for the rest - well, I'm paying for the rest and FI is paying to redo the bathroom and bedroom furniture
