who picks the readings?????

my fiance and i have chosen two close friends/family as readers and are wondering, who picks the reading passage? do we choose? or is it the responsibility of the reader to find a passage and approve it with us? i'm confused. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

In our case we're choosing the readings. But I know a bride who chose several readings, gave them to her reader(s) & asked them to choose the 1 they felt most comfortable reading.

I chose the reading, and my reader was very happy with it!

You choose the readings. We got a booklet of all different readings when we initially met with the Deacon and set a date.

Hello to all you beautiful brides to be!!!!!

I'm new here and just love it. As you can tell by my username--I'm an OldTimeBride. DH and I were married on Oct. 25, 1991. It's been bliss (and some rocky roads) ever since.

With regards to readings, if I remember correctly, when you complete your pre-cana classes and meet with the priest/rabbi/et al. you will be given a booklet that has the ceremony in it. You and FI/FH use that book to pick out your readings.

Enjoy this time because it moves along very fast!!!

we're choosing out own readings and then assigning them to both of the readers. we have to find our own though because we're not having a religious ceremony!

Anytime you need advice feel free to ask away. I love weddings. I know of two but I have to look them up. It's been so long.

Also, one of the most important aspects to me was the music. I had a wonderful soloist.

Believe it or not, it's been close to 12 years and we still have people coming up to us and telling us what a wonderful time they had at our wedding.

The one piece of advice I will give is just remember that all the planning and running around and headaches now are for the wedding. The marriage is what happens after the wedding.

You and FH pick the readings.

Re: who picks the readings?????

we chose our readings from the book 'The Prophet' - one is about love and the other is about marriage
since it's not going to be religious we had a lot of freedom to choose!

our rabbi gave us several readings that were appropriate for an interfaith ceremony and we picked two. We weren't too picky about the readings.

DH and I chose our readings and gave them to the readers. Since we had a Catholic ceremony, we were given the 'Together For Life' booklet from which to choose readings.

We wound up selecting the New Testament and Gospel reading from the book. The Old Testament reading we chose from the Book of Ruth.

I had pre-cana this past weekend and the host couple were very helpful about these kinds of questions. You probably should have gotten a book of possible readings when you met with a rep (priest, deacon) of the church.

i believe all catholic churches give you the 'together for life' book that coselige mentioned.

theres actually a cut-out worksheet that helps you along as you are choosing your readings.
