Re: Who should deal with this situation?
What does your cousin have to say about this? Is golf a priority in their household no matter what is going on? Personaly I would'nt push the issue beyond letting my cousin know that I would be dissapointed if he didnt show. If it were my family- my cousin would hear about from all the Aunts through the entire party and he would hear about it 10x over after the fact.

Re: Who should deal with this situation?
Is her husband a pro golfer going to the Masters or something on that day? I highly doubt it so there is NO excuse BUT what do you do? Have a huge fight, force your cousin to have the husband there even if he doesn't want to be there? R&T- the people who love you will be there, let the others miss a great party and wish they came to the party. You will not even notice he isn't there.

Theresa,
Unless your cousin is getting paid to play golf .....there is no excuse. IMO, I would just ignore and say to heck with them...just don't go out of your way anymore...I understand it hurts but you have better stuff to deal with!

Theresa - I agree with what everyone is saying, let it go. It is not worth the aggrevation. Besides, if he is that inconsiderate you'll have a better time without him there.
Good luck and enjoy your party.

Re: Who should deal with this situation?
T Is this his usual take on family events? I know someone who goes through similar stuff. Her husband is anti-social. Anyway, if this is the norm, then let it go, if not-I would question it. Def have your dad talk to him.

Let your dad handle the call.

Re: Who should deal with this situation?
Is it a regular game of golf or a tournament ? If its just a regular weekend game i might be annoyed, but as a golfer, I know the pull of the game, especially after a long winter.
Regardless, honestly don't stress over it - his wife really should have told him to cancel, but if he can't give up a game for you, you don't want him there.

Re: Who should deal with this situation?
Is he playing for business (you know when clients come into town and your boss tells you - you MUST play with them) or a tournament? Otherwise I can understand why you would be angry/hurt. Honestly I think something should be mentioned like that you family will be disappointed that he will not be there and could he possible change his plans. If he tells them no he doesn't want to change I think you should drop it. If he does not want to come he will be there and be miserable and make everyone around him miserable or want your cousin to leave the party early. I know you are upset about it but why do you want someone there who isn't going to be excited to celebrate and obviously important and wonderful day in your life?

It sounds like she's making excuses for him. I would let it go. It's not worth upsetting your self over it. It's his loss!
