Who still smokes?

I smoke.

And I do it to piss people off.

and they happen to be on this board i wonder who im talking about but i know they like these things Monkeys and cake

I used to smoke for 9 years! I quit like 6 years ago!

Yeah, it's me because I just posted that I still smoke.

But I guess what I am trying to get at without pissing anyone off or offending them, why do people still smoke? We know better from a health perspective as oppposed to back in the day.

Maybe I'm more curious why people start smoking nowadays (although I guess I know the answer is probably the same as it's always been even with the knowledge that it's bad for you).

Again, just something I was thinking about, not trying to insult/offend, etc & so on ...

Same here. I woudl have one every once in a while when I had been drinking. I stopped completely when I went on the pill. DH hates, hates, hates it so it is doubtful I will go back to it.

I think young people still equate it with being 'cool'. I think it also depends on how socially acceptable it is. I lived in CA for a long time, and hardly anyone I knew out there was a regular smoker, and if you did smoke, people gave you a hard time about it. I have heard that in Europe it is almost the opposite - that most people do smoke and it is acceptable to smoke just about anywhere.

Well, I'll be honest. I definitely smoked everyday in the past at least five years before I quit ... but because I didn't *buy* cigarettes and smoke at home, I didn't consider myself a smoker Yeah, just 27 smoke breaks at work with all my friends!


I quit cold turkey though when I thought Tim & I would start trying to get pregnant.

Oh, so you are like that guy I yelled at (after a few beers) during my senior year of college 'In the four years I have known you, have you ever actually BOUGHT a pack of cigarettes??'

I smoked everyday in college, partly b/c I lived with smokers. Afterwards, I lived with non-smokers who gave me crap everytime they saw me light up.

I always tried to buy them packs though!!! I just didn't want them to be mine!

I have a friend who does the same thing. She'll buy them before she goes out and then gives whatever is left to her friends, so she isn't grubbing all night. I do still occasionally have a craving for one, but DH hates it so much, I think I would have to shower after smoking to go near him.

Funny story about smoking!
When we were younger, my father owned a deli, and he wanted to make sure none of us ever tried to start smoking, so he brought a pack home from work one day and made us each take a drag (I don't think my mother was home that day ), thinking that we would hate it and then not be tempted to ever start.

My sister and I never smoked....my brothers have both been smoking for probably 10 years or so.....

Way to go Dad!!!

I still smoke, and the only explanation that I can offer that you might relate to-is people smoke for the same reason people drink, for the same reason people eat, for the same reason people exercise, the same reason people gamble, and the same reason people have sex-they like the way it makes them feel, and it can be addictive. I honestly love smoking, I know it's terrible, but I really enjoy it.
