Walked along the Queensborough Bridge and it took me 4 hours. Then when I get home I notice my husband standing in the middle of Northern Blvd with a whistle, reflective vest and flares...he was directing traffic.

I did too...started out around 6 from Downtown Manhattan...over the Brooklyn Bridge...took a cab for a few blocks...walked some more...took a bus which brought me pretty close to home...then walked some more...got into my apartment around 10...was crying because my feet hurt so much...had sandals on. My feet are cut and blistered...

But, thankfully, we're all safe and sound now.

Stef, I left at 5, and did the same thing (broadway to brooklyn bridge). I guess the human traffic dispersed a bit by the time you left...

What were you doing till 6 with no power?

Til 6PM? I was at work trying to figure out what to do. When the power went out, I was in our buildings training center (basement) and had left my purse with keys, money, etc.. in my office on the 10th floor! Thankfully, my buildings have back up generators so we had phone service and elevator service.

At about 6, I got my sneakers on and figured I better start walking now if I wanted to get home before any possible craziness started.

But being home earlier didnt help since from about midnight to 5AM (when our power came on), I just sweat and prayed for the AC to come back. Im so spoiled :D

Ah, I guess I was lucky to be by my desk. I didn't mind the heat so much, but our neighbors went a bit nutz... Playing boombox till 2 AM (I had to call the 7th precinct cops twice to get them to shut it off, and spoke with the owner on Friday)
