That is way too weird. There is NO reason for this man to have life insurance out on you!!!!! I am not sure who you could call, but is it o.k. for anyone to just take out life insurance on anyone else?? Maybe someone on here is in the insurance industry that can answer that. It just seems so weird to me.
edited to add: I would tell Met Life that youa re so grateful to them for doing a policy considering thaty you smoke 5 packs a day and shoot heroine and snort cocaine!! See how quick they cancel that policy!!

Why did you sign the papers? And if you want to get out of it, I would call Metlife and explain the situation to them, requesting the canceling of the policy!!!
This is way too messed up

Learned a lesson the hard way, huh? Never sign without reading..
Go ahead and pick up the phone with MetLife.. tell THEM you had no idea what you signed... and do NOT want a policy.
Good luck!

I signed bc Im an IDIOT! The first day of law school they said 'never sign anything without reading it....' Anyway FH had no idea what it was and assumed his policies were being changed and naming me as beneficiary for after we get married...I thought, 'thats kinda nice, not something you really want to think about, but nice....' Boy was I fooled!

You need to call Met Life and have that policy canceled!!
First of all, he's not even legally entitled to be your death beneficiary - what is his interest? He doesn't support you (I assume).
And maybe I've watched too many made for TV movies, but secondly, on Lifetime they always show those nice old ladies killing off their husbands for insurance $$$ after they get them to sign the policy.

okay, you see - right there, a lot of those movies were based on real situations! You're scaring me!
go call Met Life and come back and post about what happened when the policy is canceled!

If he insists on the insurance policy - why don't you name FH the beneficiary??

OH MY GOD
Insurance 101.. it just hit me.. I think I know what you signed!!
Beneficiaries are ALWAYS the spouse no matter who pays for the policy. By law it can NOT be changed to any other person without the spouse signing over the benefits. You may have signed away your right to the benefits to a policy.
He can NOT take a policy out on you because you hold no insurable interest for him unless he claims that your combined income could/would be used to benefit him. In that case, you can easily cancel that policy.

Xel, I had thought the same thing. But I am not sure if it is an insurance policy he paid for that she as the wife would automatically become the beneficiary.
This is so weird!!

very weird....I would call the insurance company directly and tell them you are no longer interested in their policy.

I think you better get a hold of those papers ASAP to see what you signed. From what I know, the spouse automatically becomes the beneficiary of her husband's life insurance, unless she signs a paper waiving that right. Make sure that's not what you signed.

Metlife is probably calling to verify you really did sign your rights away.

WOW. I am speechless - I cannot believe what just happened to you.
I know nothing about insurance but my initial feeling was that he had you sign away your rights as your FHs beneficiary.
Wow. What a piece of **** he is. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this...
Re: Who wants to hear what a LOSER my FFIL is?? (LONG!)
I would look into changing the beneficiary...
but I would think IF anything happened that DH (when he is DH) would get the money...
some woman 20 years younger than my grandfather moved in on him when my grandmother died and had papers drawn up for a new will...but it never came through...but when my grandfathers lawyer found out...he said that it could easily be contested...
but since it is YOUR name...you CAN change the beneficiary...I had to do that when I got married...it was my mom...now its dh
