I'm sure we can all look back and remember that one teacher that had a positive/negative impact on us.
Mine was my 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Winograde. She was a no-nonsense, strict, older teacher that knew her stuff. I remember how strict she was, but I also remember her instilling my love for reading in us and how much I truly learned that year. She'd read from Shel Silverstein's books and had us write letters to the mayor to NOT shovel out Queens last and we went on so many interesting trips.

Re: Who was your most memorable teacher & why?
I have 2. One was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Pendelton.
She was great - I remember she had me read from the 3rd grade reader - and I was so proud up myself. Another time she spent time during recess on this potholder (that my mom still has on display). Plus, it was when I really learned to read. She was a first year teacher at my school (though not a first year teacher) and she was black (gasp - a black teacher in smithtown ) Apparently a lot of parents had a problem with this - and my my wrote a letter to the superintendent and the principal in her defense - saying that she was a wonderful teacher and that I was leanring so much from her. I was very proud of my mom when i read the letter several years later
My other teacher was Herr Krebs (High School German). This man was just amazing. He was a wonderful teacher - funny, kept us motivated. And he was willing to do anything to help us when we were stuck. He also coordinated the fabulous German Dinner Dance, and spent weeks teaching us the quadrille, as well as German songs. He just went above and beyond - and he won teacher of the month for news 12 when I was a junior

Re: Who was your most memorable teacher & why?
My high school Latin teacher. She had such a love for the language and US!! We were basically the only public school that took Latin and she really wanted us to excel in it. She even invited the whole class to come to her house and study for the big latin exam. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, beat that, then had liver cancer come back 5 years later. She actually survived a long time after that-doctors were puzzled. She sadly passed 3 years ago, right before Xmas. I attended her service on Xmas Eve and it was the most saddest/happiest one. She really lived a great life and loved everyone. I was sad But she's in a better place now!! We had a special relationship-and she always said 'You are going to marry him' (My FH was in one of her other classes). I know she will be with me on that day

High school Earth Science teacher, Mr Orna. He was a nut but for some reason we clicked like friends (he was probably a perv - LOL! No wait, that was my math teacher who stuck his tongue in my ear ).
He also made me this crazy birthday card that I still have today - I think it was for my 16th, so it's 21 years old!

Re: Who was your most memorable teacher & why?
Probably my first grade teacher. She was very young at the time I had her and we all thought she was so pretty and fun. I remember at the time hearing my mother talk about how her husband had just died, but I don't think I ever really knew the extent of it until last year - she and her now husband were one of the host couple's for our Pre-caana session. It was so great to see her and she remembered everything about me...it turns out her husband had cancer and he died after they had been married for only a year or two. I remember when she started to date one of the other teachers (her now husband) and we all used to get excited when he came in to talk to her and when she told us she was going to get married again...

I was just about to post these two women!
Mrs. Mallozzi was the kind of teacher you remember forever. My brother had her and still goes to visit her. She made learning fun and made reading Shakespeare at age 9 easy!

Re: Who was your most memorable teacher & why?
My 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Hopkins. She coud be strict but really loved all of us and she was the only teacher who put on one big play each year - because of that play, I ended up taking dance lessons (in order to get bigger parts in other plays) and I still dance. She was the best.
Also - 6th grade English, Mrs. Cohen. She got me in the habit of journal writing and that led to me writing my first book (still unpublished )

9th Grade Math Mr. Dominguez
When studying for the Seq. I Regents I told him I am studying so hard b/c I at least want an 85. He then said 'why not a 100?' When he said that to me it made me want to study even more!! Well to make the story short...he called me at home to tell me that I got a 98% and it was the highest grade in the whole 9th grade!! I will never forget that and I know it made him very proud!! Thank You Mr. Dominguez!!

My 5th grade teacher, Mr Affronti. He was by far the coolest teacher ever. He made learning so much fun. He taught us this preposition song and to this day, I can recite it. He would never yell at us, instead taking a student into the hallway and talking to them. I remember every monday and friday he would pick us up after recess and he would pick a student. He would send that student all the way out in the field and he'd thow a football. If the student caught it, he wouldnt give us homework. And every friday he would take us to the gymnasium and we'd play crab hockey for the last hour of school. He was the best teacher I've ever had!!!

Definately my third grade teacher! She was so caring and so patient. I was the new student (from another country) and obviously the language and the whole adjusting to the new country was difficult on a 8 year old but she was a darling and helped me out every single time I needed it!!

My High School Chemsitry teacher, Mr. Almansi. I LOVED him, and he always believed in me, even when i NEVER grasped the concepts of Chemistry. He always told me that I should become a nurse, because I had a BIG HEART

I have two....
My second grade teacher...Mrs. Gerkin...she loved teddy bears and you could honestly tell she cared about each and every one of us. At the end of the year we had a teddy bear picnic where we brought in teddy bears from home and our parents came and we put on a show.
My other teacher was my 4th grade teacher...Mrs Naughton....we walked in to 4th grade on the first day and she told us there was no Santa Claus. I already knew because I had older sisters, but some of the kids were in shock. That was just the start to a horrible year.

I have 2...Mrs Randall 1st Grade at Jackson Ave..MIneola..she was just the sweetest nicest kindest lady. She also lived in Mineola and my brothers and I all had her. We became very close to her after we had her.
And Mrs Wortmann 4th Grade Jackson Avenue Mineola....what an awesome teacher. Another teacher that my brothers and I all had. Every morning we sang a different patriotic song. She taught us so much about Long Island history and just about life in general.
Sadly both of these wonderful teachers died in the past year
