Who will be...

Who will be the primary bread winner in your house...you or FH/DH?

For us, it is me...and that's a lot of pressure!!

We both make about the same amount, but he will wind up making more in the long run and I want to stop working when we have babies...so he will be eventually!!!!!

In my case, it is me.

If FH goes to school for his MBA, I will be the bread winner for two years and then his degree will get him a nice job and then I'll let him pay me back

I am and always will be.

He has the bigger retirement portfolio though since I had to liquidate when I came to NY and his office gives him options and stocks as bonuses instead of money.

He works for a very small privately owned company. We both love his boss, but the boss has all the overhead and can't afford to pay Jim as much as he'd like.

I work for a very large insurance broker and I just started at entry level. I already out earn him. With my potential for promotions and salary increase, it will be hard for him to catch up.

We are actually alright with this. I just hand him my cash at each check and force him to pay bills. But I NEVER EVER pay for anything in public. I am old fashioned, the man pays for it (even if it's my money).

Vendors all laughed cause when we booked im like 'Ok babe, pay the man'. Everyone thinks Im using him for his money.. how ironic!

fh is right now, but once i finish college, i'll probably make close to the same amount he does.

As always he always has a higher salary than I do, thus he is always the bread winner. I don't mind as I want him to be the bread winner. Perhaps, I'm old fashioned and it's a new century where both men and women have liberal rights.

My FH is, except that we have to pay child support out of his which makes us about equal.

Equal right now, but he can make comission starting next month, so he will probably end up making more.

I am right now....he recently switched careers and had to 'start over'
Both he and I are fine with this....I know it won't be this way forever...
Besides, it makes me proud to be able to contribute so much to the savings, earnings, house (when we find one) etc....

I always have been and always will be. It is the nature of the fields we are in. I started out making more and there is enough of a gap with raises and stuff, he will never make as much as I do. It's no biggie. I do all of our bills also. Doesn't make a difference to us. In the end, it is all our money. We put it together, budget it out and he gets the cash to pay for stuff. It works and we are both happy.

Check out all these self-sufficient, independent women!

I am also right now, he is in school for his MA but once he gets out he'll probably catch up if not pass me!

right now we are equal. in a couple of years, i will double his salary and we are both okay with that.

I'm a full time graduate student, so for now, and for our first couple of years of marraige, he is the primary bread winner. However, once I begin working, I will likely be making at least as much, if not more than he is. We're content either way.

Right now, he's making piles and piles more than me, which is sort of ironic considering he doesn't have a college degree and I've got a college degree and a J.D. However, the market sucks now and I'm working in public interest, basically making bubkus (I would be living home with my parents if we weren't living together because I barely make a living wage for New York). However, in a few years, who knows? I have a great earning potential, but there's no way to know which one of us will be making more or if we'll be earning about the same in the future.

I make about 3x more than he does and he seems alright with. We've been together for 6 yrs so hopefully that won't change!
