Re: Who works in marketing or advertising?
My best friend is in advertisting. We both had majored in Communications, and she had interned in advertising companies each summer during college, so she had a portfolio of work to show. Right out of college she started working at Saatchi. It didn't pay to well (maybe $35?), and it was long hours. Soon after she was working on an account with someone who worked for KitchenAid. They offered her a job in their in-house department. She now works there, makes great $ (probably $100,000 with bonuses, and we are 26), but she had to move to Michigan for the job. She hates Michigan. In NYC I think they can not pay so well to begin since there are so many people who want the jobs.

Re: Who works in marketing or advertising?
I am in marketing (mostly online). My marketing job is a little different from the norm, because I am also the project manager. I think you should be able to get a marketing assistant job with little experience. I'm sure you'll need a college degree and maybe some, if any office experience. I'm not sure if you're still in college, but if you are or have the time, I'd suggest getting an internship - some are paid which is good! Go to Monster.com and search on marketing jobs to check out the pay for a regular position. You could also go to a headhunter who can tell you what the pay typically is and to start your 'hunt'. Every job is so different. You usually have to be able to write, be organized, communicate well and be open to learning new things. As far as creativity I'd say you have to have some but probably not as much as if you were in advertising. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

It depends upon what department you are looking to get into. Are you looking for Accounts/finanical or creative?
