is it rude to have a card box at the reception? I've been told that it looks bad to have one ...but I would very much like to have one. What do you guys think?

We had one! I bought it from etsy. A ton of people handed me cards at the CH - thank GOD for my bridal assistant who took them while I ate! :)

we had one that was right by our table and i think it's a good idea. better than collecting from ppl and you holding it and possibly losing the cards

I think it would be weird not to have one there,
I even went to a wedding in Massachusetts and they had one and they didnt have what you would normally have at a NY wedding.

I know a lot of girls are having one but I am NOT.
Its only because I have never seen them done at Indian weddings and also who will watch it the entire night?

I'm planning on getting one of the satin money bags. I personally don't want my cards to be a focal point of the wedding. Want to keep it discreet and out of sight.

I understand how you feel, but I am having one (ordered from etsy). I don't want to have to worry about the cards all day and I think this is the best way to go.

Very cute, I like the idea. I haven't decided yet...and I'm so NOT crafty. Every premade card box I see is way too expensive, plus I know I wouldn't use it after the wedding. Hmmm....

Are you having a small wedding? If not I don't see how you would be able to fit all of your cards in that, I have only seen those used for those dollar dances. I personally had about 160 ppl at my wedding and I had a stack of cards that was about a foot thick- literally!
To ans the original question, I don't think it's rude. I don't think I have ever been to a wedding that didn't have a card box.

I'm having 125 guests, good point. I have been to a wedding w/out a card box, but it was on the smaller side.

Yes...we only had 115 guests, and the bird cage did a good job of keeping everything in one place
I barely got to chat with everyone and have enough mimosas as it was, I didn't want to be walking around with a card bag...and neither did mom, and grandma is 90 and didn't do much walking anywhere!

i don't think so at all. actually, as a guest, i prefer it so that I know where to put the gift because otherwise i just throw it in the general vicinity of other gifts and hope that it gets to the bride & groom. i'm going to get something to put cards in for sure.

Re: Who's having a card box at the reception?
We are doing a vineyard themed wedding and my FIL made me a mini wine barrel with a slot in the top to put the cards in and a trap door at the bottom to get them out. We couldn't find any online that were big enough or reasonably priced. I think he did an EXCELLENT job!!!
we're using a birdcage, I think it's expected to have a container for the cards at New York weddings. As a guest it's the first thing I look for.

We are having one. My uncle made it for me. It looks like a sand castle and he put a slot on the top for the cards. There is a door with a lock on the back so I don't have to worry about the cards at all during the night. Plus it goes with our theme so it will look amazing!!!
He did make another one that he is going to put on Ebay I think for people to rent if they want.

We did a photo card box...it's now sitting on our coffee table in our livingroom. We put our engagement pics in it. My friend may be borrowing it for her wedding too!
