For me - this is easy. We live in NYC and my parents are from NYC (they live now in LI, but are moving into the city in six months). My FH is close with his parents but they live so far away (OH) and I just don't feel that close to them. I do feel, however, that they are jealous that my parents live close to us. It is my BIGGEST fear that his parents (who are such simpletons, not into culture, could sit and eat and watch TV all day) will want to move to NYC in a couple of years. I don't know what it is about his parents, but whenever they ask me about how my parents are, I feel like they are trying to figure out how often we see them, etc. It's so annoying - maybe i'm making this up. Does anyone else feel similarly towards their FILS?

Definitely mine. My parents are in their 50's and are fun to hang out with, while his Dad is 76 and feels more like a grandpa to me. (His mom passed away). I just feel like I do not relate to his father at all. He's really nice, but he doesn't say much so somtimes it's like pulling teeth. I find myself talking about the weather or his health a lot!

For me? Most def my mom/step-dad. Our parents are very different, and while his mom is very nice, she is much more eccentric, and I have a hard time understanding why she does some of the things she does.

i'm more close with his parents cause i can tell them anything. I'm really not that close with mine. I mean i love my mom and dad but you can hangout with them and chat but with his you can.

what a coincidence! My FMIL is also from Ohio.
But to answer your question, I am definitely closer with my folks. My FMIL is a wonderful lady, but I am very close with my parents. especially my mom!

I am much closer to mine. Sometimes I start getting close to my FMIL, but then she does something wierd to stop it. For instance, my birthday was yesterday and she never even called to wish me a happy birthday...not even a card in the mail.

Even though they are currently in Florida, I would say HIS... I LOVE his parents, in fact, I love his entire family. Im thankful that I am now going to be a part of that family too. I get along with my mom, for the most part, but my dad and I dont really get along that well (we are wayyy too much alike)

Definately mine-hands down-his father was awesome but he passed away in February his mother and stepfather-I could definately do without-I hate to sound so mean but the woman is ultimately evil and totally creeps me out-she is so obnoxious and trys to play mind games to get what she wants-I could literally go on and on about her but I wont-his stepmother is wonderful we just dont see too much of her especially now that his father has passed. My parents are the best though!
