Whos right?

I would respect his decision to not do the reading. If he doesn't feel comfortable going up in front of everybody with the cast, then it's going to make it hard for him to do the reading. Maybe as it gets closer he will feel better about the position he is in and will want to do it.

They say that the two things people fear the most is death and public speaking. I could only imagine how he would feel having to get up there and on top of having an impairment.

tell him that you do REALLY want him to do it, but ULTIMATELY it's his decision...if he thinks he will feel uncomfortable, then his reading will reflect that as will his attitude and the way he presents himself while reading.

Hang on a few months and see if he changes his mind. If he's still uncomfortable with it, tell him to grow up and get over it. Its not thaaat big of a deal if he's in a cast! Especially if you (as the bride) don't mind! The important thing is that you asked him and want him to be a part of your day. He should want to do it for you and not think of himself. I'm sure most people wont' even realize he's in the cast anyway. You could always have the cast color coordinate to your colors :)
Good luck!

i can understand where he is coming from- it may take him longer to get up there and everyones eyes will be on him. god forbid he fell or something that would be horrible.
id respect his wishes and find a different person to do it.

I would respect his decision. Since you are so close, realize that he must feel THAT uncomfortable with the situation - due to your closeness, I am sure he would not back out unless he was extremely uncomfortable with the situation.

i'd just respect his decision. at least he told you how he feels, which had to be hard.

i would respect his feelings and just ensure him if he would change his mind that he would still be able to.
