I hope I don't get bad luck for saying this, but I was SHOCKED when I got a letter from my church (where I plan to be married) that I need to pay $750! This is NOT including the organist (an extra $200) and the cost of the sexton and cantor (another $100). This is IN ADDITION to the $500 I donated last year. How are people supposed to afford this?? Obviously, I guess I have to just pay, but this was a shock I was NOT AT all aware of!

My church didn't say it was a donation.. they actually gave us a price list that said 'Required Church Fees'.. totally almost 1k!
Did that price include the officiant, or is that JUST the building fee?? What denomination is it? That seems like an awful lot of money, in my opnion
Its a roman catholic church and the fee includes everything... including singer. Not sure why its so expensive. Maybe my church is broke.

did it also list pre-cana? when we first booked we were given a price sheet which also included pre-cana and said $350 but that was for the retreat. We didnt do that one and instead did 2 day pre-cana and paid for that separately and came out to $75 each. So my price sheet showed it at a little over $1k but actually came out to less since we didnt choose that pre-cana.

No the precana was seperate... another $250! I went with a cheaper one though... the church came out to 750 and then another 200 for the church singer (whatever they are called), however I might want to bring my own so maybe they will knock off $200 ..

My church is almost $1K but that includes precana, music and everything for the church the day of.
If you get married at the RH you need to pay an officiant, music, and some RH charge for the ceremony time.....it pretty much comes out to the same.

I think mine is just $750.. don't you love how they call it a 'donation'?? If it was a 'donation', we should be able to choose the amount to give...
I agree - we have a $500 'donation' $150 for the organist and $150 deposit and if we are running late they keep the $150. I wouldn't mind giving them the $$ - I would give them $1000... but dont call it a donation if you are making me pay a certain amount....

wow, so far my church hasn't asked for anything!! Well, it's my home church which I am a member of, so i kinda think that's why i'm not being charged. I will, however, still give the Pastors something. But I don't think they have any 'suggested' amount. It's just whatever we feel. (I think it'll depend on how much i HAVE. lol)
we are members of the church we got married in and they still made us pay. it was 500 for the church and 200 for the music

Another reason to get married at your RH! I wouldn't even want to know what my church would charge, ridiculous.
A donation in my eyes, is something you CHOOSE to give, not something you're forced to give--just my two pennies.

an Rh charges you about the same amount to have your ceremony there, plus you have to pay for an officiant yourself so yeah same thing as far as price.

Think it depends on the place, some have packages where the ceremony is included, like 2 of the ones I priced out. And does an officiant really cost that much? (sorry i'm new!)

our church asked for a $600 donation. I didnt really mind at all, i mean compared to the cost of the rest of the wedding its really nothing. Girls will drop 1k and higher on anything wedding related but complain when having to give it to the church. As a whole, its a very small cost of your wedding and actually its the most important part and whole point of the day. Plus it goes towards something helpful
Couldn't have said it better, we have a $600 donation too

Re: Whose church also wants a VERY large donation??
My church is toooo small for a wedding, and refused to do any. Then, FH is Catholic and I'm not, so I wasn't ready to be confirmed a Catholic only to get married. So, I looked at sooo many churches....some want almost 2500!!!! Soo... tomorrow morning we are going to St. Marks in Islip... Please keep your fingers crossed he's avaliable ... They want 500 and 200 for the organ...I'm totally fine with that. 2500 for only 30 mins...with MANY regulations...nah, I'll pass. I know there are others out there. If on the other hand it was MY church, I was still suck it up. The church is the main part of the day.. JMO
