FH and I both have good insurance but his is an HMO He will probably switch to mine and not worry about referrals and such

I am going to keep mine because I don't pay for it but am also going to be put on his military insurance. There are a few doctors I used to go to that don't take my insurance but take his.

well since i dont have insurance, i will be going under his. He has great insurance. I told him we should get married now so i can take advantage of it!!!!

I'm going on his because he doesn't pay into his insurance. His co-pays are also less than what I pay.

For now, we are going to keep our own insurance, because it is cheaper. Every plan is different. I have dealt with medical billing for many years. I don't think you can get one answer. When we have a kid, then we will have to switch to the family plan. For us, we work together and pay far less for individual plans. As for the family plan, if you both have coverage, it would go by the birthday rule-first one born in the year would have the primary coverage for the child (doesn't matter year you were born). As for yourself, if you both had coverage for each other, you would be primary under your own coverage and the secondary would be the other spouse' coverage. If one of you have better family coverage, then you shouldn't get family coverage on both insurances if the better plan won't be the primary.

Some companies off domestic partner insurance, where you have lived together for at least one year to be covered under his insurance without being married. If you lived together for more than one year, then you should check into whether his employer offers that option.

We'll both keep our own for now. His is free for him, but $300/month to add a spouse. Mine is pretty cheap for me and only about $10-20/month to add a spouse.
We'll see what to do in a year or so when he finishes training.

Ill be taking FHs, when i got my job now i had to switch from an INS ivehad my whole life and LOVE. FHs job offers that INS so ill be taking that one. if i dont take INS through my job i will get money back.
Also, it will be better in the long run when we have children incase i end up staying out longer than what my job allows staying on INS.

To answer my own post, we are both keeping our health insurance since it's cheaper that way but I was wondering if there are benefits to being on the same plan, especially when we start having kids.
well like just said above, depending on your job, if you have children and are out of work for a longer time than expected, you will still be covered if you are on his
For instance, I can get Femla, from what i GET 12 weeks for childcare and maintain my INS, anythink over the 12 weeks i will lose my health insurance.

Not sure. Both us are teachers and we have the exact same medical insurance. It's going to come down to who has the better dental/eye insurance.
