There is a web site that you can use where the hotels bid on your business for a hotel block and the hotels can see what others bid. When i get home tonight i will post the web site, it worked great for me we got a rate of $75 a night at the hilton, i even got the hyatt down to 91 a night.

Re: why are hotel blocks so expensive

we have hotel blocks at 109 King, 119 Double and i thought that was bad - i guess not so in comparison to 153!!! Eppp. we blocked the best western in woodbury, NY for Oct 2010. We liked them because they have a restaurant on site and a free shuttle to and from our hall.

remember that the time of the year will effect the room rates. The summer will be more then say the winter.

I wish we could find that low!! The Holiday Inn Express won't let us block rooms until August...but we are in the process of reserving a block at Danfords...for $199/night
